Yogi Adityanath Meets PM Modi, Pays Tribute to Kalyan Singh on Birth Anniversary
New Delhi/Lucknow, Jan 2026 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, holding discussions amid ongoing political and developmental priorities of the state and the Centre. Photographs of the meeting were shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on its official social media handle, stating, “Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri @myogiadityanath met Prime Minister @narendramodi.”
The meeting came on a day of political and emotional significance for the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, as earlier in the morning he paid homage to former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and former Governor of Rajasthan, Kalyan Singh, on his birth anniversary. Remembering Singh’s legacy, Yogi Adityanath highlighted his decisive leadership, administrative resolve, and pivotal role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Addressing a commemorative event in Lucknow, Chief Minister Adityanath described Kalyan Singh as a leader who placed principles above power. He recalled that Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister “without hesitation” at the peak of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, respecting the sentiments of devotees of Lord Ram. “When the movement was at its height, he willingly sacrificed his position. After the structure, seen as a symbol of centuries of slavery, was demolished, he immediately took responsibility for the consequences,” Yogi Adityanath said.
The Chief Minister noted that Kalyan Singh’s tenure would always be remembered for strengthening governance, advancing development, and promoting a nationalist vision in Uttar Pradesh. According to Yogi, Singh’s leadership restored public confidence at a time when the state was grappling with instability, lawlessness, and social unrest.
In a post on X, Yogi Adityanath paid a heartfelt tribute to the late leader, calling him a steadfast warrior of the Ram Temple movement. “On the birth anniversary of that resolute warrior of the Shri Ram Temple movement, who ignited the lamp of faith in the hearts of countless devotees of Lord Ram, I offer humble tributes to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, former Rajasthan Governor and Padma Vibhushan awardee Kalyan Singh ‘Babuji’,” he wrote.
He further described Kalyan Singh as an embodiment of devotion, sacrifice, and loyalty, stating that his public welfare-oriented policies and firm administrative decisions gave a fresh impetus to Uttar Pradesh’s development. “His life remains a unique example of dedication to society and the nation,” Yogi added.
Kalyan Singh passed away on August 21, 2021, at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow due to sepsis and multi-organ failure. He served as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice—between June 1991 and December 1992, and again from September 1997 to November 1999. He later served as Governor of Rajasthan from 2014 to 2019 and held several key organisational positions within the Bharatiya Janata Party at both the state and national levels.
Notably, Kalyan Singh was Chief Minister at the time of the Babri Masjid demolition in December 1992. He resigned from office hours after the incident, following which the Congress-led central government dismissed the Uttar Pradesh government. Legal proceedings were initiated against him, and he was briefly jailed in connection with the case.
Remembered by supporters as “Babuji,” Kalyan Singh remains a towering figure in Uttar Pradesh politics, symbolising firm leadership, ideological commitment, and a lasting imprint on the state’s political and social landscape.
