Bhagwant Mann Inaugurates Multania ROB, Announces New Overbridge to Ease Bathinda Traffic

Jan 2026 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday dedicated the reconstructed Multania Railway Over Bridge (ROB) to the public and approved the construction of another ROB in Janta Nagar, marking a significant step towards easing Bathinda’s long-standing traffic congestion. Addressing a gathering during the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the projects reflect the state government’s commitment to modern infrastructure and citizen-centric development.

Mann noted that the earlier Multania ROB, built around 35 years ago, had become inadequate for present-day traffic volumes. With a narrow carriageway of just 23 feet and limited service road space, the old bridge had turned into a major bottleneck for commuters. “As the city expanded and vehicle numbers increased, the bridge could no longer meet Bathinda’s traffic requirements,” he said, adding that reconstruction was essential to ensure safety and smooth mobility.

The newly rebuilt Multania ROB has been constructed at a cost of ₹38.08 crore. Spanning a length of over one kilometre, the bridge now boasts a significantly wider carriageway of 34.5 feet, compared to the earlier 23 feet. Built over multiple railway lines including Ambala, Delhi, Sirsa and Bikaner routes, the ROB was opened for public use on December 23, 2025. The Chief Minister said the upgraded structure will greatly reduce congestion and improve connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.

Highlighting the government’s focus on holistic urban development, Mann announced that the area beneath the Multania ROB will be transformed into a modern sports and recreation zone. Planned facilities include a walking track, box cricket arena, skating area, basketball court, gym space and other amenities, aimed at promoting fitness and community engagement among residents.

Referring to another major infrastructure initiative, the Chief Minister said the state government has approved the construction of a new Railway Over Bridge in Janta Nagar at an estimated cost of ₹50.86 crore. The proposed bridge will be around 650 metres long with a 31-foot-wide carriageway, while the adjoining service road will be widened from 18 feet to 33 feet. Mann informed that the tender process has already begun and construction work will start soon.

Beyond infrastructure, the Chief Minister also spoke about ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector. He said school infrastructure across the state is being upgraded and teachers’ skills are being enhanced to deliver better learning outcomes. “Our government is fully committed to the welfare of Punjab. Every decision is taken after consulting people and stakeholders, keeping public interest at the centre,” Mann asserted.
