An action plan of more than 187 crores has been prepared for the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana in Bastar division
Officials of the Central Government’s Water Resources River Development and Ganga Conservation Department met and discussed with Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap at his residence/office today regarding the Ground Water Irrigation Scheme. In compliance with the instructions of the letter of Central Ground Water Board, Ground Water Bhawan, Faridabad, under the Ministry of Water Resources of the Central Government, a total of 3215 borewells will be dug in 19 development blocks under the Ground Water Irrigation Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana Har Khet Ko Pani in 07 aspiring districts of Bastar division. For this, an action plan of Rs 187.69 crore has been prepared to provide irrigation facility in 6578.78 hectares.
Through this action plan, a total of 13 thousand 852 farmers including 12656 Scheduled Tribe farmers, 560 Scheduled Caste farmers and 363 General Category farmers will be benefited through Ground Water Irrigation Scheme. This includes 10 thousand 498 small farmers and 3 thousand 354 marginal farmers.
Under the guidance of the Prime Minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government is committed to provide water to every farm with the goal of doubling the income of farmers. Water is the main component of agriculture and thus a basic necessity for farmers. To increase the income of farmers, irrigation has to be provided to the agricultural sector, many areas of Bastar division are still deprived of irrigation facilities, which are to be irrigated through ground water through Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The beneficiaries under this scheme are only small and marginal farmers. Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said that we are moving towards the goal of increasing the income of farmers. Many welfare schemes are being run for farmers under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, from which farmers are getting benefited.
At present, the total sown area of 07 aspiring districts of Bastar division is 8 lakh 81 thousand 949 hectares, against which the total constructed irrigation capacity is 1 lakh 27 thousand 052 hectares, of which 12.56 percent irrigation has been provided through surface water. In many such areas of forest covered Bastar, irrigation facility can be provided only through ground water, for this the Chhattisgarh government is committed, under which a target has been set to provide additional irrigation in 15 thousand hectares through ground water, for which an action plan is being prepared.
On this occasion, Central Ground Water Board Chairman Mr. Sunil Kumar Ambasht, Water Resources Secretary Mr. Rajesh Sukumar Toppo, ENC Mr. Indrajit Uike and Director Mr. Nayak along with other officials were present.
