FCS&CA Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova Oversees Tripura-Mizoram Natural Gas Pipeline; Visits Tripura
Aizawl, Jan 2026: Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova visited Tripura to inspect the recently completed Tripura-Mizoram natural gas pipeline. Following coordination with Tripura Natural Gas Corporation Limited (TNGCL), the minister visited industrial and commercial users of natural gas, including PRAN Beverages (India) Pvt. Ltd., Tripura Industrial Growth Centre, a CNG station, and ONGC facilities. During the visit, the Subham Solitaire pipeline connection, which links 330 domestic and commercial users to the natural gas network, was also reviewed.
Minister Lalchhanzova emphasized that the pipeline would provide reliable natural gas supply to Tripura and Mizoram for domestic, commercial, industrial, and transport purposes, benefiting households, industries, and small-scale enterprises across Mizoram. He noted that the project would support industrial expansion, employment generation, and socio-economic development in Mizoram while ensuring efficient and safe gas delivery.
The minister highlighted the importance of capacity-building and training programs to ensure proper utilization of natural gas and safe operation of pipelines. Both IGCL (Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited) and TNGCL expressed their commitment to supporting the Mizoram government in gas supply and management.
Pipeline Details:
- The pipeline originates at the Panisagar Terminal in Tripura and ends at the Receiving Terminal at Sihhmui, Mizoram.
- The total pipeline length between Panisagar and Sihhmui is 119.5 km, with a diameter of 1 foot.
- The pipeline passes through Kanhmun, Zawlnuam, Kawrthah, Tuidam, Darlak, Mamit, and Lengte in Mizoram.
- IGCL is responsible for pipeline operations, while TNGCL manages gas distribution at the Sihhmui terminal and within Aizawl city, supplying various regions across Mizoram.
The Tripura-Mizoram Gas Pipeline Project is part of the North East Natural Gas Pipeline Grid and is expected to be fully operational by December 2027. As of now, approximately 45% of the pipeline has been completed, according to IGCL.
Minister Lalchhanzova was accompanied by senior officials from the FCS&CA Department, including Pi Teresy Vanlalhruaii (Secretary), Dr. Andrew H. Vanlaldika (Additional Secretary), and Pi Saizikpuii (Director).
This project represents a significant step toward enhancing energy infrastructure and industrial development in Mizoram, ensuring sustainable and efficient use of natural gas for multiple sectors while strengthening Tripura-Mizoram economic connectivity.
