Delhi Capitals Stage Stunning Collapse to Restrict UP Warriorz to 154/8 in WPL 2026

Navi Mumbai, Jan 2026 : In a thrilling contest at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Delhi Capitals produced a disciplined bowling performance to claw their way back into the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 seventh match, restricting UP Warriorz to a competitive but below-par total of 154 for 8. Despite a fluent partnership between skipper Meg Lanning and Harleen Deol, Delhi’s bowlers turned the tide in the final overs, ensuring the Warriorz fell short of a commanding total.

UP Warriorz’s innings initially promised much but delivered less than expected. Early on, Marizanne Kapp set the tone for Delhi by removing Kiran Navgire for a duck in the first over, signaling their intent with the new ball. Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield steadied the innings, blending caution with measured aggression to take UP to 47 for 1 at the end of the Powerplay. Sneh Rana then removed Litchfield for 27, but Lanning and Harleen Deol continued to anchor the innings while accelerating at the right moments.

By the first strategic timeout, UP was 76 for 2 after nine overs, looking firmly in control. The Lanning-Deol partnership thrived between overs 11 and 14, with the Warriorz reaching the hundred in just 11.2 overs. Lanning’s 32-ball fifty, featuring nine fours and a six, had UP poised for a big total, and at 125 for 2 after 14 overs, the momentum seemed firmly with them.

Delhi Capitals then executed a remarkable turnaround. Shafali Verma delivered a tight off-spin spell, conceding just 16 runs while taking two key wickets. Nandini Sharma struck at a crucial moment, dismissing Lanning for 54, ending the dangerous third-wicket partnership and triggering a collapse.

The final overs belonged to Delhi, as panic set in for UP. Harleen Deol, retired out at 47 to accelerate the scoring, could not prevent the collapse. Chloe Tryon fell cheaply, and Delhi seized the moment, taking six wickets for 24 runs in the last five overs. From a strong position of 138 for 3, UP managed only 27 runs in the final six overs, finishing at 154 for 8.

Brief Scores:
UP Warriorz 154/8 in 20 overs – Meg Lanning 54, Harleen Deol 47; Delhi Capitals – Shafali Verma 2/16, Marizanne Kapp 2/24

The match highlighted Delhi Capitals’ disciplined bowling, strategic field placements, and timely breakthroughs, transforming a potential big total into a manageable score.
