Entire Election Process Conducted Smoothly; BMC Administration Thanks Mumbaikars Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation General Elections 2025–26

Mumbai, January 2026 : The entire election process conducted under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) General Elections 2025–26 was completed smoothly with the cooperation of all stakeholders. Mumbaikars participated enthusiastically and exercised their right to vote. Overall, the polling process was conducted peacefully, transparently, and efficiently, with valuable support from citizens, political parties, candidates, party workers, the media, and all administrative agencies.

For this cooperation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi, Special Officer (Elections) Vijay Balamwar, Deputy Commissioner (Assessment and Collection) Vishwas Shankarwar, Additional District Magistrate (Konkan Division) and Municipal Election Coordination Officer Assistant Farogh Mukadam, and Assistant Commissioner (Assessment and Collection) Gajanan Bellale expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all concerned.

Polling for the election of 227 municipal corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation was held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Across a total of 10,231 polling stations, essential facilities were ensured, including voter amenities, special arrangements for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, drinking water, sanitation, ramps, and clear guidance. Effective deployment of a workforce of 64,375 personnel was undertaken, along with the participation of 4,500 volunteers in the polling process.

Out of Mumbai’s total electorate of 10,344,315 voters, approximately 5,476,043 voters exercised their franchise. This included 2,923,433 male voters, 2,552,359 female voters, and 251 voters from other categories. Overall voter turnout stood at 52.94 percent.

Throughout the election period, all departments of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, including officers, staff, and workers, remained on duty round the clock. Around 30,000 officers and personnel from the Mumbai Police were deployed for security arrangements. In addition, officials and staff from the Central Government, State Government, various authorities, banks, and semi-government institutions also contributed to ensuring the smooth conduct of the elections.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India and under the guidance of the State Election Commission, Maharashtra, officers, employees, and workers discharged their duties with utmost diligence.

Municipal Commissioner and District Election Officer Bhushan Gagrani expressed special satisfaction with the disciplined and dedicated performance of election officials, staff, police personnel, and other departments involved in the polling process. He noted that effective coordination among all agencies made it possible to successfully complete the election process.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi stated that the successful conduct of this important democratic exercise was made possible due to the responsible participation of all stakeholders, making the election process credible and effective. She added that similar cooperation from all sections would be expected in future administrative functioning as well.
