Jharkhand Strengthens India’s Strategic Role in Global Minerals at World Economic Forum, Davos

Davos/Ranchi: Amid rising global concerns over energy security, supply chain resilience, and clean energy transitions, Jharkhand showcased its strategic strengths in the mineral sector at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 in Davos. Led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren, the state held high-level discussions with global leaders, investors, and experts from India, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Davos-based institutions, highlighting its central role in India’s mineral ecosystem.

At the forum, Jharkhand’s pivotal position was demonstrated across the mineral value chain—from exploration and extraction to processing and advanced technologies. The state was featured in a dedicated global roundtable focused on strategic mineral resources, emphasizing Jharkhand’s significance in supporting India’s energy security, industrial growth, and economic development. Global participants acknowledged the state’s critical role in clean energy, advanced mineral processing, and technology-driven mineral management.

Focus on Value Addition, Responsible Mining, and International Collaboration

The Jharkhand delegation made it clear that the state is not just focused on raw mineral extraction but is committed to promoting downstream processing, value addition, advanced mineral technologies, and technical collaboration. In line with this vision, the state is preparing comprehensive frameworks for mineral processing clusters, investment incentives, financial support, and value-chain development. This approach aligns with international models such as the UK–India Free Trade Agreement and India–Germany cooperation initiatives on industry, energy, and security.

Energy Security, Sustainable Growth, and Development in Harmony with Nature

During deliberations, participants underscored the need for responsible mining, secure supply chains, and technology-driven value enhancement. Jharkhand’s “Development in Harmony with Nature” approach was particularly appreciated by international stakeholders. A coffee-table book titled Beneath the Ground: Powering India’s Energy Security was also released, highlighting Jharkhand’s mineral wealth and its strategic importance in strengthening India’s energy security.

The forum saw participation from former Union ministers, senior state officials, global institutional representatives, and international experts, demonstrating strong collaboration and commitment. With 25 years of state-building experience, Jharkhand is now moving beyond a resource-rich state to establish itself as a global hub for mineral processing, responsible mining, and sustainable industrial development, reinforcing India’s strategic interests on the world stage.
