‘Moringa for Nutrition’ to Become a Mass Movement: Minister Lakshmi Rajwade Calls for Large-Scale Plantation Drive
Raipur, June 2026 : With the aim of combating malnutrition and strengthening public health across the state, Chhattisgarh Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Lakshmi Rajwade has called for the plantation of Moringa (drumstick) trees to be transformed into a mass movement. She appealed to all public representatives, Gram Panchayats and urban local bodies to undertake large-scale plantation of Moringa during the monsoon season and spread the message of “Moringa in Every Home, Nutrition for Every Family.”
In a letter issued in this regard, the Minister stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the Women and Child Development Department has envisioned planting the “Nutrition Tree – Moringa” at all Anganwadi centres and in the homes of beneficiaries across the state to build a well-nourished Chhattisgarh.
Rajwade highlighted that Moringa is an extremely nutritious and versatile plant whose leaves, pods and other parts are rich in essential nutrients. It contains abundant quantities of protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin A and Vitamin C, along with several other vital nutrients required for healthy growth and development. Owing to its exceptional nutritional value, Moringa is often referred to as the “Mother Tree.”
The Minister noted that regular consumption of Moringa can significantly improve the nutritional status of children, women and other family members. In addition to supplying essential nutrients to the body, it also helps prevent health issues such as anaemia and supports overall well-being.
She urged all public representatives to ensure the plantation of Moringa saplings during the rainy season near water sources, within Gram Panchayat premises, at public places and in the homes of beneficiaries. According to Rajwade, the campaign, driven through active public participation, will serve as an important initiative in improving nutrition levels across the state.
The Minister further stated that the programme will not only contribute to reducing malnutrition but will also help raise awareness among people about the importance of nutritious food and healthy living. She expressed confidence that widespread participation would make the initiative a significant step toward creating a healthier and better-nourished society.
Appealing to citizens to actively support the campaign, Rajwade said that collective efforts and community participation would play a crucial role in achieving the vision of a “Well-Nourished Chhattisgarh” and ensuring better health outcomes for future generations.
