Andhra Pradesh Local Body Polls: TDP-led NDA Sweeps ZPTC and MPTC Elections, Wins 499 ZPTCs and 5,861 MPTCs

Amaravati, November 2026 : The Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has registered a decisive victory in the Andhra Pradesh Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections, winning 499 of the 582 ZPTC seats and 5,861 of the 7,768 MPTC seats, according to the final results announced by the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday night.

The ruling alliance, comprising the TDP, Jana Sena Party (JSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured a majority of seats across the state, while the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) finished second.

The TDP emerged as the single largest party, winning 406 ZPTCs and 4,806 MPTCs. The JSP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, secured 73 ZPTCs and 938 MPTCs, while the BJP won 20 ZPTCs and 117 MPTCs.

The YSRCP secured 76 ZPTCs and 1,711 MPTCs. The Congress failed to win any seat, while the CPI(M) secured one ZPTC and 15 MPTCs. Independents won six ZPTC seats and 162 MPTC seats.

Party-wise election results

The SEC released the final counting figures after polling was held on November 5 across 28 districts. The results were declared for seats that had gone to polling, following the unanimous election of several candidates.

Polling was conducted for 582 ZPTC seats and 7,767 MPTC seats in 28 districts. The SEC had earlier declared 77 ZPTCs and 2,051 MPTCs elected unanimously. The final figures released by the commission also reported 7,768 MPTC seats won, while the party-wise figures supplied for the contesting candidates add up to 7,749.

NDA dominates across districts

The TDP-led coalition swept the polls in a majority of districts, continuing its strong performance after its victory in the urban local body elections held the previous week.

In Sri Sathya Sai district, the TDP won 21 of the 32 ZPTC seats, while the YSRCP secured nine.

In Tirupati district, the TDP captured 21 of the 31 seats, with the YSRCP finishing second with six seats.

The ruling alliance also made significant gains in YSR Kadapa district, considered the home district of YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The YSRCP managed to win only two of the 16 ZPTC seats in the district. The TDP secured 12, while the remaining two went to the JSP.

In SPSR Nellore district, the TDP won 26 of the 30 ZPTC seats, leaving the YSRCP with just two.

The results underline the TDP's dominance in the rural local body elections, with its allies also contributing to the coalition's overall tally.

Jagan alleges irregularities in counting

The YSRCP, however, questioned the conduct of the elections and alleged irregularities during the counting process. Party leaders claimed that the SEC had failed to act on their complaints regarding the counting of votes in the ZPTC and MPTC constituencies.

Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the local body elections under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had been affected by irregularities. He claimed that, as in the municipal election counting, officials were pressured to manipulate results in several districts during the ZPTC and MPTC vote count.

“Democracy is being undermined at every turn. Chandrababu Naidu may have won the election, but he has suffered a moral defeat. We may have lost the election, but we have won the hearts of the people,” Jagan said.

He further alleged that political power could influence election outcomes but could not secure public trust.

“Power may help someone win an election, but it cannot earn the people's trust. Democracy may be suppressed, but the people's aspirations cannot be silenced,” he said.

The former Chief Minister also thanked YSRCP leaders and workers, particularly women party members, for standing firm despite what he described as obstacles, attacks and intimidation.

He vowed that the party would continue its political struggle with greater determination.

The NDA's victory in the rural local body elections follows its strong showing in the urban local body polls, consolidating the ruling coalition's position across Andhra Pradesh. The YSRCP has disputed the process, however, alleging that the counting was not conducted fairly.
