Chief Minister Inaugurates Renovated Mizo High School Field

Aizawl, Aug 2026: Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma inaugurated the renovated Mizo High School Field, developed by Aizawl Smart City Limited at a cost of ₹16.06 crore.

UD&PA Minister Shri K. Sapdanga graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, while EF&CC Minister Shri Lalthansanga and Health Minister Smt. Lalrinpuii were also present.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the project was initiated by previous governments and appreciated their efforts, which the present government had continued. He said the name “Mizo High School Field” had been restored as the field had been popularly known by that name for many years and had played an important role in nurturing athletes.

The field will be managed by a committee comprising government representatives, Zarkawt Local Council members, NGO leaders and the Principal of Mizo High School. Mizo High School and Higher Secondary School students will be allowed to use the facility free of charge, while Zarkawt Local Council, NGOs and Zarkawt Presbyterian Church will also be able to use it without charge. Management of the parking area has been entrusted to the Zarkawt Local Council.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the historical significance of the site. A church was established at the location by missionaries 130 years ago, and at the request of Zarkawt churches, a small structure replicating the original church has been constructed to preserve its historical memory. The structure will be used as a prayer space.

He said the renovated field would provide valuable infrastructure for students, youth and sports enthusiasts, and expressed hope that the facility would be used effectively. He also thanked UD&PA Minister Shri K. Sapdanga, his colleagues and Aizawl Smart City Limited for successfully implementing the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Guest of Honour Shri K. Sapdanga, who is also the local MLA, expressed his appreciation for the new infrastructure in his constituency. He said the field had long been one of the most prominent football training grounds in Aizawl and hoped that its renovation would enable young people to use it more effectively. He also welcomed the provision of a large parking facility, particularly noting that the project was designed and executed by Mizo engineers.

The renovated facility includes a two-level parking area with capacity for 80 four-wheelers and 47 two-wheelers, a 35,000-litre water tank, public toilets and a security room. The field features an elevated jogging track, cycling track, cricket practice pitch, stage, toilets, store room, children's play area, open gym, garden and water cooler.

In recognition of the site's historical importance as the location where Mizoram's first church was established on June 10, 1896, a structure resembling the original church has also been constructed.

The main field has a grass surface measuring 73.35 metres by 33.12 metres, with seating capacity for 310 people.

The project was executed by Lushai Engineers. The contract agreement was signed on June 10, 2022, work commenced on February 4, 2023, and the project was completed on August 10, 2026.

The inauguration programme was chaired by Pu V. Lalsangliana, Commissioner & Secretary, UD&PA. Rev. R.C. Lalnghakan conducted the dedication ceremony, while Pu C.C. Lalchhuangkima, CEO, Aizawl Smart City Limited, presented the technical report.
