Aizawl, August 2026:Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma laid the foundation stone for the new Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) General Headquarters Building, to be constructed at Treasury Square.
Speaking at the foundation laying program, the Chief Minister congratulated the MHIP on their upcoming modern and prestigious new General Headquarters. He noted that as the only major non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated specifically to women and children, and having been established with government support, it is entirely fitting for the government to continue aiding them as much as possible. He highlighted the MHIP's crucial role in passing The Mizo Marriage, Divorce and Inheritance of Property Act, 2014, and mentioned that in recognition of their exemplary work, they received the Nari Shakti Puruskar award from the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India, in 2016. He added that their various initiatives bring great comfort and relief to women and children.
The Chief Minister expressed that because MHIP and other voluntary organizations serve as key pillars of society, guiding younger generations and acting as vital social institutions, the government deems it proper for them to have suitable and honorable facilities. Looking toward the future, he encouraged them to become self-sustaining in generating revenue to manage themselves and their facilities stably. He noted that the government is also taking steps for other NGOs—constructing a large Convention Centre under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 on YMA land in Thingsulthliah, carrying out a vertical extension for the MUP Office, and arranging land for the MSU Office in Ainawn Veng. He also highlighted that Working Women’s Hostels are currently under construction in seven different locations to support women's welfare.
Emphasizing the goal for development work to be executed efficiently and rapidly, the Chief Minister explained that under the newly introduced Financial Advisory System, substantial financial powers have been delegated to Department Secretaries to expedite implementation. Regarding SASCI funds, which arrive fresh every year, he highlighted that previous projects must be cleared and settled first before utilizing new funds, calling for strengthened cooperation among all stakeholders. He urged the MHIP to closely monitor the construction of their new building from start to finish to ensure high-quality execution.
MHIP President Smt Lalliani also addressed the gathering, explaining that because their old building was no longer fit for occupation, steps were taken to construct a new one. She expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma, Minister for Women and Child Development Smt Lalrinpuii, and government officials for their comprehensive support.
The old MHIP General Headquarters Building was first occupied on April 20, 1993. The new building will be constructed at the same location with an estimated outlay of₹3.70 crorefunded under SASCI 2025-26.
