At Least 10 Reportedly Forcibly Disappeared in Karachi Amid Rising Baloch Rights Concerns

Karachi, Aug 2026 : At least 10 people have reportedly been forcibly disappeared from Maripur in Karachi over the past week, according to local media reports, amid growing concerns over alleged detentions and disappearances involving members of the Baloch community in the city.

The Balochistan Post, citing local sources, reported that Khalid Baloch, brother of former Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC) chairman Shabbir Baloch, was allegedly forcibly disappeared from Maripur during the past week.

The report further claimed that nine other people — Sooraj, Shahbaz, Sakhi, Aamir, Sameer, Allah Bakhsh, Aamir Wahid, Aziz Noor Dad and Sabir Aziz — were detained during separate operations conducted over the course of the week.

According to the report, residents have alleged that security operations have been continuing for nearly a month in several Baloch-majority neighbourhoods of Karachi. Locals reportedly claimed that personnel from the Rangers and intelligence agencies have been conducting nighttime operations involving area cordons, searches and detentions.

The allegations have added to wider concerns over enforced disappearances involving Baloch activists, students and civilians in Pakistan's Balochistan province and other areas with significant Baloch populations.

On Sunday, Paank, the Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement, alleged that 27-year-old student Wajid Baloch was abducted during the early hours of August 10 from Qambrani Road in Quetta. The organisation alleged that personnel of Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) were responsible for the incident.

In another case, Paank alleged that 17-year-old student Asfand Baloch was abducted on August 4 from Killi Almas Airport Road in Quetta. The rights organisation alleged the involvement of personnel from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), CTD and Military Intelligence.

Expressing particular concern over the alleged disappearance of the minor, Paank said the incident raised serious questions about his safety and well-being.

The organisation also reported the alleged disappearance of 40-year-old Asif Ali, who was reportedly taken from his home in Quetta on August 1 by personnel allegedly linked to the ISI and CTD. His whereabouts and condition have remained unknown, according to the rights group.

Paank has described the alleged disappearances as part of a continuing pattern of enforced disappearances targeting students and civilians. It said such incidents constitute serious violations of fundamental human rights and create fear and distress among families across Balochistan.

The rights organisation called on Pakistani authorities to immediately disclose the whereabouts of Asif Ali, Asfand Baloch and Wajid Baloch, ensure their safety and physical well-being, and release them.

It also appealed to the United Nations, international human rights organisations and the broader international community to take note of the alleged continuing disappearances in Balochistan.

Paank urged international bodies to press Pakistani authorities to end enforced disappearances, establish the whereabouts and fate of missing persons, ensure accountability for alleged violations and provide justice and support to affected families.

The allegations could not be independently verified, and authorities have not been cited as confirming the reported disappearances or the allegations concerning the security agencies.
