Ensure Prompt Assistance and Safe Traffic Management on Highways
Jaipur, August 2026 : A road safety review meeting was held at the Secretariat on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary V. Srinivas. The Chief Secretary directed officials to ensure intensive and regular inspection of all vehicles transporting schoolchildren and to accord the highest priority to children’s safety. He said that violations of safety standards in school buses at any level would not be tolerated. Strict action should be ensured against those violating the rules.
Directions to Strengthen Helpline System and Ensure Quick Response
The Chief Secretary directed that all helplines related to road safety remain fully operational and that response time be kept to a minimum upon receiving information about an accident. He directed officials to ensure effective coordination and proper integration between State Helpline 112 and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Helpline 1033. He also directed that daily infographic reports related to road safety be prepared and submitted regularly.
Ensure Fire Safety and Trauma Centre Facilities on Highways
The Chief Secretary said that appropriate fire safety arrangements in wayside areas and functional trauma centre facilities should be ensured on highways to minimise loss of life following accidents. He directed officials to regularly monitor the development and operation of necessary facilities on highways. He said the Road Safety Fund should be utilised effectively and transparently in accordance with its prescribed objectives so that road accident prevention and the system for providing prompt assistance after accidents can be further strengthened.
Strict Action on Road Repairs, Unauthorised Cuts and Traffic Rule Violations
The Chief Secretary directed officials to ensure timely repair of damaged roads and said that no unauthorised cuts should be allowed on highways. All necessary warning signs and signboards must be installed in accident-prone areas. During the meeting, Principal Secretary, Transport Department and Chairman, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (Roadways), Bhawani Singh Detha, said that necessary measures were being taken in coordination with all concerned departments to strengthen road safety in the state.
Officials informed the meeting that continuous action was being taken to remove encroachments from highways and that 4,248 encroachments had been removed so far. Construction of wayside amenities along highways was also being carried out at a rapid pace. In addition, 51 unauthorised cuts had been identified, of which 45 had already been rectified. Officials also informed the meeting that more than 1,100 challans had recently been issued for various violations, including the absence of reflective tape, unauthorised modifications in buses, old and unsafe school buses, and overspeeding. Officials said 25 interceptor vehicles had been received and strict enforcement was being undertaken to ensure that buses stop only at designated stops. Re-registration of buses in accordance with the new AIS standards was also being ensured.
DG (Traffic) Malini Agrawal, Principal Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Ravi Jain, Managing Director, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) Purushottam Sharma, officials from NHAI and senior officials from all concerned departments were present at the meeting.
