Lucknow, October 2026 : The Yogi government is prioritising relief and sanitation measures to restore normal life in flood-affected areas and protect residents from infectious and mosquito-borne diseases. As floodwaters recede, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has stepped up preparations for cleaning operations, drainage restoration and public health protection in affected localities.

Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar chaired a review meeting at the Zonal Office of Zone 3 with Additional Municipal Commissioner Arun Kumar Gupta and other officials. He directed them to accelerate the operations immediately.

The meeting reviewed the measures to be undertaken in flood-affected areas of Zones 3 and 6 as water levels recede. The Municipal Commissioner instructed officials to deploy mud pumps for desilting and cleaning areas where the floodwater has drained away, ensuring the removal of accumulated soil, sludge and waste from affected lanes and drains.

GIS Mapping Used to Prepare Sector-Wise Action Plan

To ensure systematic and effective sanitation operations, the Municipal Corporation has prepared an action plan based on Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping. Affected areas have been divided into separate sectors, with designated officers assigned responsibility for each sector.

Officials and staff from the engineering, health and waterworks departments have been deployed, while street-wise supervisory responsibilities have also been assigned. The arrangement is expected to improve coordination between departments and ensure regular monitoring of the work.

400–500 Additional Sanitation Workers to Be Deployed

The Municipal Corporation will mobilise additional personnel from other zones to carry out large-scale cleaning operations. During the meeting, instructions were issued to arrange staff through LSA and LSG.

According to the preliminary assessment, approximately 400 to 500 additional sanitation workers will be required in the affected areas. The concerned agencies have been directed to provide the necessary workforce. The cleaning drive will be conducted in phases, depending on the pace at which floodwaters recede in different localities.

Anti-Larval Spraying by Drones Across 70 Acres

To reduce mosquito breeding and the risk of mosquito-borne diseases following waterlogging, the Municipal Corporation has undertaken anti-larval spraying operations. Chemicals have been sprayed using drones across a total of 70 acres in Zones 3 and 6.

In Zone 3, drone-based anti-larval spraying covered 44 acres in Faizullaganj. Chemicals were also sprayed using tankers along Ghaila Road.

On Daudnagar's 60-foot road, sodium hypochlorite and bleaching agents were applied, while cleaning and removal of overgrown vegetation were also undertaken. Drone spraying was carried out in Ganesh Bagh, Sanmant Vihar and Millat Nagar.

After the water receded, bleaching agents were sprayed in the dried lanes of Mama Colony and Old Daudnagar. Drain cleaning and removal of overgrown vegetation were also carried out in these localities.

Sanitation and Drainage Measures in Zone 6

In Zone 6, drone-based anti-larval spraying covered 18 acres in Saitha and eight acres in Hayat Nagar, taking the total area covered in the zone to 26 acres.

Bleaching powder, lime and anti-larval chemicals were applied in waterlogged areas and along water edges in Hayat Nagar, Saitha, Tandkheda and Daulatkheda. Sanitation and public health protection measures were also undertaken in Hari Nagar and Mishri Ki Bagiya.

Officials focused on cleaning roadside drains in Hayat Nagar and Daulatkheda to improve water drainage and prevent further waterlogging.

Focus on Hygiene and Disease Prevention After Floods

With accumulated waste, sludge and the possibility of mosquito breeding posing health risks after the floods, the Municipal Corporation is giving special attention to sanitation and disease prevention.

Alongside anti-larval spraying, bleaching powder, lime and sodium hypochlorite are being used in affected areas. Drain cleaning and vegetation removal are also being undertaken to improve hygiene.

Municipal teams are carrying out operations according to local conditions, with the aim of restoring cleanliness, improving drainage and reducing the risk of mosquito-borne diseases as normal life returns to flood-affected neighbourhoods.
