Dehradun, September 2026: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, on Friday flagged off an eight-member Nepal Disaster Relief Assistance Team from the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Dehradun.
The team, led by Padam Singh Thapa, Central President of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, has departed for Nepal to provide assistance to people affected by the recent natural disaster.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dhami said Nepal was not only India’s neighbour but also a country that shares deep social, cultural and emotional ties with India.
“In this difficult hour of natural disaster, the people of Uttarakhand and India stand with the affected families of Nepal,” the Chief Minister said. Appreciating the efforts of the relief team, he said helping people in need during times of crisis was a humanitarian responsibility.
Padam Singh Thapa, President of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, said the organisation’s disaster relief assistance team would provide support to affected people and adopt a village in Nepal to extend all possible assistance to families impacted by the disaster.
He said the team would also support the construction of a school building for children and distribute books and other educational materials among students. The Sabha is also maintaining continuous coordination with the Government of Nepal and voluntary organisations there to facilitate relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Prabha Shah, Media In-charge of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha, said that following the disaster, the Sabha had constituted a committee for Nepal relief assistance and appealed to people and organisations to contribute to the relief efforts.
She said various branches of the Sabha and associated organisations had extended their support to the relief operations.
Those present on the occasion included Gorkha Welfare Council Vice-President Abhishek Shahi, Shaheed Major Durga Malla Mandal President Rajiv Gurung, Shamsher Thapa, Teku Thapa Magar, Shankar Thapa, Dammar Thapa and Lav Tamang, among others.
