Nagoya, Sep 2026 : Olympians Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Mairaj Ahmad Khan, along with Bhavtegh Singh, secured a bronze medal for India in the men’s skeet team event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday.
The Indian trio posted a combined score of 346 to finish third on the podium and take India’s shooting medal tally at the Games to seven. Qatar clinched the gold medal, while Kuwait finished with the silver.
Anantjeet also emerged as the only Indian shooter from the men’s skeet team to advance to the individual final. He scored 119 out of 125 in qualification to secure his place in the medal round. Mairaj finished with 116/125, while Bhavtegh registered 111/125, with both missing out on qualification for the individual final scheduled later on Wednesday.
India had earlier secured another bronze in the women’s skeet team event, with Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Razia Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan combining to finish third. Razia and Parinaaz subsequently qualified for the women’s individual final after finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, in the qualification round.
The skeet medals came after a disappointing outing for India in the 10m air pistol events. Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the women’s individual event, finishing fifth in the final with a score of 181.1.
The Indian women’s team also finished fourth in the 10m air pistol team event with an aggregate score of 1719-44x. Vietnam secured the bronze with the same aggregate score of 1719 but a superior inner-10 count of 46x. China won gold with 1735-56x, while South Korea took silver with 1730-55x.
India began its shooting campaign at the Asian Games with a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod combined to finish second, with Elavenil also securing an individual silver.
The following day, Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil won silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event. Himanshu and Rudrankksh then added an individual silver and bronze, respectively.
With the men’s skeet team bronze, India’s shooting medal haul has reached seven medals, comprising four silver and three bronze.
At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, India produced its best-ever shooting performance at the continental event, winning seven gold, nine silver and six bronze medals for a total of 22 medals.
India’s overall medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games has now risen to 10, comprising one gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
