India, Poland to Deepen Strategic Partnership in Defence, Space and Nuclear Energy: PM Modi

New Delhi, October 2026 : India and Poland have agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership by expanding cooperation in defence, space and nuclear energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday, inviting Polish companies to collaborate with Indian firms on co-development and co-production in these critical sectors.

Addressing a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, Modi said the two countries had taken significant decisions to deepen bilateral engagement and explore new avenues of economic and technological cooperation.

The Prime Minister recalled his visit to Warsaw in 2024, during which India and Poland elevated their bilateral relationship to the status of a Strategic Partnership. He said the relationship had gained fresh momentum over the past two years, creating opportunities for collaboration across multiple sectors.

“Today, we have agreed to deepen our ties in the fields of defence, space, and nuclear energy. We invite Polish companies to work with India on co-development and co-production in all these strategic sectors,” Modi said.

He observed that India and Poland were emerging as important centres of economic growth, technological advancement and innovation at a time when the world was experiencing considerable uncertainty and transformation.

Defence and Technology Cooperation in Focus

The proposed expansion of India-Poland cooperation in defence, space and nuclear energy is expected to create opportunities for industrial partnerships, technology collaboration and joint production. Modi's invitation to Polish businesses highlighted India's interest in strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities while building partnerships with international companies.

The discussions also focused on strengthening economic ties and improving cooperation between businesses in the two countries.

Modi welcomed Tusk's visit to India with a large business delegation, expressing confidence that Indian and Polish companies would work together to establish reliable global supply chains and contribute to the shared objective of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.

India-Poland Trade and Investment Opportunities

Highlighting the economic potential of the partnership, Modi congratulated Poland on its gross domestic product crossing the historic USD 1 trillion mark last year. He also pointed to India's reported economic growth of 7.8 per cent in the previous quarter, saying the expanding economies of both countries had created fresh opportunities for cooperation.

The Prime Minister said the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement would further widen the scope for bilateral trade and investment.

Once the agreement comes into effect, it is expected to create additional export opportunities for Indian products, including machinery, chemicals, plastics and engineering goods, in the Polish market.

Modi also said India would seek to attract greater Polish investment in sectors such as railways, mobility, advanced manufacturing, food processing and biotechnology.

The proposed cooperation is aimed at diversifying economic engagement, encouraging investment and strengthening business connections between Indian and Polish companies.

Shared History Strengthens Bilateral Relations

Recalling the historical links between the two nations, Modi said India-Poland friendship was rooted not only in diplomatic relations but also in a shared legacy of humanity and compassion.

During the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur provided shelter in India to thousands of Polish children and families displaced by the conflict.

Modi noted that the people of Poland continued to remember Jam Saheb as “Dobry Maharadza”, meaning “The Good Maharaja”, reflecting the enduring significance of this humanitarian connection.

The Prime Minister said the historical bond provided a strong foundation for strengthening contemporary diplomatic, economic and cultural relations.

Partnership Gains Fresh Momentum

The latest discussions reflect India's efforts to expand its strategic engagement with European partners and encourage cooperation in advanced technologies, manufacturing and energy.

With defence, space, nuclear energy, trade and investment emerging as key areas of focus, India and Poland are seeking to translate their Strategic Partnership into tangible economic and industrial outcomes.

Both countries have identified deeper business engagement and stronger supply chains as important elements of their long-term cooperation, with the proposed goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030 providing a key economic target.
