New Delhi, August 2026 : Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the valedictory ceremony of the ‘Prabodhan’ Induction Programme-2026 at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW). The university’s state-of-the-art lecture hall complex was also inaugurated during the programme. Equipped with modern facilities, the complex is an important step towards providing students with a contemporary academic environment for teaching, interaction and knowledge exchange. Delhi Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood was also present on the occasion.
‘Prabodhan’ marks the beginning of a new academic journey
‘Prabodhan’ means awakening. In keeping with this spirit, the induction programme was organised to familiarise new students with the university’s academic environment, institutional culture and the opportunities available to them. Along with academic excellence, the programme placed special emphasis on innovation, leadership, professional development and responsible citizenship.
Growing opportunities for daughters in technology and innovation
In Delhi, special emphasis is being placed on connecting daughters with modern technical education, research and innovation and preparing them for future technologies. In line with this, opportunities for education and skill development in new-age areas such as Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Mathematics and Computing have been expanded at IGDTUW. Initiatives such as NETRA-NAARI-NETRITVA have also been taken forward to train students and women police personnel in emerging areas such as drone technology and surveillance. Under this initiative, 75 surveillance drones have been developed and demonstrated for the Delhi Police.
With around Rs 8 crore in funding for the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Drone Technology and the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security, new opportunities for research and innovation are being created for daughters in these fields. Strong partnerships with industry are also helping connect students with practical learning and employment-oriented skills. With the support of the Bajaj Auto Foundation, around Rs 9 crore has been provided for the BEST Centre, promoting work in advanced manufacturing, industry-oriented skills and emerging technologies.
Greater opportunities for daughters’ talent
The growing capabilities of daughters in technical education are also reflected in their placement results. During the recent placement season, IGDTUW students received more than 1,000 placement offers, with the highest package recorded at Rs 1 crore. These achievements reflect the growing confidence and technical proficiency of Delhi’s daughters, as well as their preparedness to meet the changing needs of the industry. During the programme, the ‘IGDTUW Times’ booklet was also released. It brings together key initiatives related to the university’s academic achievements, student activities, research and innovation. Students who performed exceptionally well and the Best Vice Chancellor Interns were also felicitated.
LG encourages students to become innovators and leaders
Lieutenant Governor and IGDTUW Chancellor Taranjit Singh Sandhu encouraged the students to pursue quality technical education and emerge as innovators and leaders in the future. He appreciated IGDTUW’s efforts to create opportunities for women in technical education and emerging technologies. He said empowering women through technical education is important not only for their personal growth, but also for strengthening women’s participation in national development and leadership.
Addressing the students, the Lieutenant Governor said they were not merely preparing for future jobs, but preparing to shape the future of India. Their generation has the opportunity to develop and shape technologies that can bring far-reaching changes to healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, governance and almost every aspect of daily life. Their responsibility, therefore, is not limited to using technology; they must become creators and innovators of technology and give a new direction to the country’s future.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while encouraging the students, said daughters today are leading in every field, including engineering, technology, science, space and defence. Students should not limit themselves to using existing technologies, but should become builders of AI and new technologies and develop solutions for the future. She called upon the students to develop curiosity, courage and character in their strengths and to become job creators rather than merely job seekers.
The Chief Minister said the Delhi government’s endeavour is to ensure that every daughter in the capital gets equal opportunities for quality education, modern infrastructure, skill development and advancement of her talent. She said institutions such as IGDTUW are opening new doors of opportunity for women in technical fields and playing an important role in advancing women-led development. Women’s participation will be decisive in building a developed Delhi and a developed India. The growing participation of daughters in emerging fields such as technology, artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, research and entrepreneurship is giving a new direction to the country’s youth power.
Technology, skills and practical learning are the need of the future
Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood emphasised the growing importance of technology, skills, innovation and practical learning for students’ future. Appreciating the initiatives being undertaken by IGDTUW in emerging technical fields, he said preparing students in line with the rapidly changing needs of industry and society is the need of the hour. Referring to the surveillance drones developed by students for the Delhi Police, he said they were an example of the ability to turn technology into solutions for real-world needs. He also called upon the students to develop new solutions in areas such as women’s safety, healthcare and green technology. The Education Minister said the Delhi government is working towards developing an Education City spread over around 160 acres. At the same time, a Rs 400-crore Startup and Incubation Policy has been approved to support students and young entrepreneurs.
