Mumbai, Aug 2026 : The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with draft voter lists for all Assembly constituencies across Mumbai scheduled to be published on August 31.
The exercise comes amid a significant number of enumeration forms being reported as uncollectible or remaining undigitised in several constituencies across Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district. Authorities are working to ensure that eligible voters are accurately reflected in the electoral rolls.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has also approved the rationalisation of polling stations across Mumbai City and Mumbai suburban districts. The approval was granted on August 24, following the revised schedule for the Special Intensive Revision received from the ECI on August 19.
Following publication of the draft electoral rolls, voters will have an opportunity to submit claims and objections at the offices of their respective Assembly constituencies. The window for filing claims and objections will remain open from August 31 to September 30.
During the revision process, Electoral Registration Officers will issue notices between August 31 and October 29 to voters whose records remain unmapped, contain anomalies or are involved in claims and objections. The concerned cases will subsequently be examined, with hearings conducted wherever required before decisions are taken.
The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 4, following completion of the scrutiny and disposal process.
The revision exercise will also provide an opportunity for newly eligible voters to register. Individuals who turn 18 on October 1, 2026, will be eligible to enrol themselves in the electoral rolls. They can submit Form 6, along with the prescribed supporting documents, between August 31 and September 30.
Similarly, voters whose names are missing from the draft electoral rolls, or whose names have been deleted, can apply for fresh registration during the same period by submitting Form 6 and the required documents.
Meanwhile, constituency-wise figures have highlighted substantial numbers of enumeration forms that could not be collected or digitised during the ongoing exercise.
Colaba recorded the highest uncollectible rate among the constituencies cited, at 46.97 per cent. It was followed by Airoli at 44.03 per cent, Kalyan West at 42.65 per cent, Mumbra-Kalwa at 42.92 per cent and Mankhurd Shivajinagar at 42.31 per cent. Malabar Hill recorded an uncollectible rate of 39.02 per cent.
The high proportion of uncollectible forms has added importance to the scrutiny process, as election authorities seek to identify discrepancies and ensure that voter records are properly updated.
The Special Intensive Revision is aimed at improving the accuracy of electoral rolls by identifying eligible voters, addressing anomalies and providing opportunities for citizens to correct or update their records.
With the draft rolls due to be released on August 31, voters across Mumbai will be able to verify their details and submit claims or objections within the prescribed period. The process is expected to culminate with the publication of the final electoral rolls on November 4.
