Amaravati, Aug 2026 : A delegation led by Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd, met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday and discussed the Adani Group’s proposed titanium plant in Srikakulam district, involving an investment of around ₹16,000 crore.
During the meeting at the State Secretariat, the delegation briefed the Chief Minister on the potential of beach sand minerals in Andhra Pradesh, their value-added applications and market demand. The representatives explained that ilmenite found in beach sand could be processed into titanium slag, titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and titanium sponge.
According to the officials, titanium dioxide has extensive applications in industries including paints, coatings, cosmetics, plastics, polymers and ultraviolet-protection products. The proposed project is expected to promote greater value addition to the State’s mineral resources and create opportunities across several downstream industries.
The Adani Group delegation also outlined plans for several supporting initiatives in Visakhapatnam. These include skill development centres, Adani University, an international school, a 1,000-bed hospital under the Adani Aarogya Mandir initiative and a 150-seat medical college.
The delegation also presented details of the master plan for a proposed Adani Data Centre and IT Park in Visakhapatnam.
Chief Minister Naidu stressed that Andhra Pradesh should focus on processing and manufacturing value-added products from beach sand minerals rather than limiting operations to extraction of raw materials. He said such an approach would help maximise the economic benefits generated from the State’s natural resources.
Naidu emphasised the importance of reducing India’s dependence on imports of critical and rare earth minerals. He called for the adoption of advanced technologies to develop an integrated mineral-processing ecosystem within Andhra Pradesh.
The Chief Minister said the State should work towards greater self-reliance in rare earth minerals and ensure that the development of these resources contributes both to economic growth and nation-building.
He directed officials to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the mineral resources available across Andhra Pradesh and identify the technologies required for their extraction, processing and value addition. Officials were also asked to identify suitable technology partners with expertise in the rare earth and critical minerals sector.
Naidu said the entire development strategy should be designed to ensure that Andhra Pradesh derives maximum economic benefit while also contributing to India’s strategic requirements.
The proposed titanium project, along with the planned investments in education, healthcare, technology and data infrastructure, is expected to strengthen the State’s industrial ecosystem and create new opportunities for employment, skills and technology development.
