Hyderabad, August 2026: Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have intensified efforts to trace their residents and pilgrims who remain unaccounted for following devastating floods in Nepal and adjoining areas. Officials from both states are coordinating with the Centre, Indian diplomatic missions and authorities in Nepal to ascertain the safety and whereabouts of those who have not yet been contacted.
Telangana: 22 People Remain Untraced
A total of 22 people from Telangana remain untraced after the floods, officials said on Thursday. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating assistance through the Helpline and Coordination Centre at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, in coordination with the helpline operating from the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad.
Since the helpline was activated, around 80 to 100 calls have been received from family members and others seeking information about people who may have been affected by the floods.
Following preliminary scrutiny and verification, officials identified 20 cases involving 23 people for further action and coordination. Of these, six are residents of Telangana, while 17 are Telangana-origin non-resident Indians.
A positive development was reported after one person from Ranga Reddy district, who had travelled to the region for the Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra, was confirmed safe and managed to establish contact with his family. With this confirmation, one of the 23 people initially reported in the cases has been accounted for, while efforts are continuing to trace the remaining 22.
Several of those unaccounted for had travelled through the Nepal-Tibet region, including pilgrims travelling towards or returning from the Manasarovar Yatra. Their last known locations include areas around Rasuwa, Rasuwagadhi and Gyirong along the Nepal-Tibet border.
On the instructions of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, officials at Telangana Bhavan are maintaining continuous contact with the Telangana Secretariat, Ministry of External Affairs, Embassy of India and other agencies involved in the rescue and coordination efforts.
The Resident Commissioner at Telangana Bhavan is personally monitoring the situation and reviewing the progress of efforts to trace the missing persons.
Officials are verifying information received from families, travel operators and official channels. Each actionable case is being taken up on priority with the relevant authorities.
The Telangana government has assured families that the situation will continue to be monitored closely and all possible assistance will be facilitated on the basis of verified information.
Andhra Pradesh: Seven People Yet to Be Traced
In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, seven people are still untraced in flood-hit Nepal, while 34 others have been confirmed safe, officials said.
Four people from the Kurnool-Adoni region have been reported safe in Tibet. In another relief, 28 pilgrims from the Tirupati region were confirmed safe in Kathmandu. They have also been contacted through the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS).
However, seven people from Chittoor, Vijayawada, Kakinada and Guntur remain unaccounted for. Among them, three had travelled to Mansarovar as part of a pilgrimage organised by the Isha Foundation. Their mobile phones are currently unreachable, adding to concerns over their safety.
The Andhra Pradesh government has established a control room at AP Bhavan in New Delhi to track the situation and coordinate rescue and assistance efforts. Officials are maintaining regular communication with the Central Government as well as Indian diplomatic missions in Kathmandu and China.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation with officials after being informed that several Andhra Pradesh pilgrims travelling to Mansarovar had been caught up in the floods. He was briefed on the relief, rescue and tracking measures undertaken so far.
Naidu directed officials to use every available channel to establish contact with people whose whereabouts remain unknown and ensure their safety. He instructed authorities to continuously track their movements and provide their families with verified updates without delay.
The Chief Minister also ordered officials to maintain constant coordination with the Central Government and Indian diplomatic missions. He directed them to explore alternative evacuation routes wherever required, while simultaneously working towards restoring road and air connectivity in affected areas.
Naidu stressed that safely bringing stranded Andhra Pradesh residents back home must remain the government's highest priority. He asked all departments involved in the response to work in close coordination and ensure that there was no delay in providing information or assistance to affected families.
Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments are continuing to monitor developments in Nepal as rescue and communication efforts remain underway. Authorities are relying on verified information from government agencies, diplomatic channels, families and travel operators to trace those still unaccounted for and facilitate their safe return.
