Tehran, Aug 2026 : Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir will visit Tehran on Monday as Islamabad steps up diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Munir would head a Pakistani delegation to the Iranian capital as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
According to Baqaei, the visit also forms part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic efforts to support peace and security across the region amid continuing tensions and conflict in the Middle East.
Pakistan has played an active role in attempts to de-escalate hostilities between Iran and the United States. Islamabad helped broker a memorandum of understanding in June as part of efforts to facilitate dialogue between the two sides. However, negotiations have since appeared to lose momentum.
Munir’s planned visit comes against the backdrop of Pakistan’s expanding regional security engagements. Earlier this month, Islamabad signed a joint defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkey, which some analysts viewed as an effort to strengthen regional security cooperation and counter Iran’s growing influence.
The Tehran visit is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions on bilateral ties, regional security and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
