Hyderabad, Aug 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday appealed to people across the state to remain vigilant during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and ensure that no eligible voter is removed from the list.
Addressing the Minorities Excellence Summit in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy alleged that certain political forces were attempting to get voters’ names deleted in Telangana, similar to developments he claimed had taken place in West Bengal ahead of the Assembly elections. He urged citizens and Congress workers to carefully verify their names and those of eligible family members in the electoral rolls.
The Chief Minister said some political forces had allegedly identified Telangana as their next target after their electoral success in West Bengal. However, he asserted that the Congress would not allow the deletion of legitimate votes in Telangana.
Reddy called upon Congress workers to visit every household and verify the voting status of residents. He said the party cadre should ensure that not a single eligible citizen is deprived of the constitutional right to vote. He urged every Congress worker to take personal responsibility for protecting voters’ rights.
The Chief Minister also highlighted his government’s policies towards the minority community, saying that Hindus and Muslims were like “two eyes” for him. He credited the Congress party with implementing four per cent reservation for minorities in Telangana.
Reddy said attempts had been made to abolish the four per cent minority quota but had not succeeded. According to him, the state government effectively implemented the reservation, enabling several minority youth to secure government positions, including appointments through Group-I and Group-II recruitment.
He said legal challenges had also been mounted against the recruitment process, including proceedings before the Supreme Court, but his government pursued the matter and completed the appointments.
Reddy also referred to remarks attributed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the four per cent reservation for Muslims would be removed if the BJP came to power in Telangana. The Chief Minister said the Congress had challenged Shah to first abolish the Muslim quota in Gujarat.
Expressing gratitude to the Muslim community, Reddy said its support and cooperation had played an important role in his political journey and in his becoming Chief Minister of Telangana.
He listed several initiatives undertaken by his government for minorities and said a member of the minority community had been appointed to the Telangana Public Service Commission. He also highlighted the induction of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin into the State Cabinet.
The Chief Minister said the government had recognised sporting achievements by appointing world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen to a Group-I level position and awarding her a cash prize of Rs 3 crore. Cricketer Mohammed Sirajuddin, he added, was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Reddy further urged minority youth to focus on acquiring practical and professional skills along with formal education. He said countries such as Germany and Japan offered significant employment opportunities for skilled workers.
The Telangana government, he said, had already established a Skills University to strengthen vocational and professional capabilities among young people and prepare them for emerging employment opportunities both in India and abroad.
