Washington, Aug 2026 : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is set to address a major gathering of Hindu Americans in New York City on August 29, in what is expected to be one of his rare public appearances in the United States.
The event, titled Universal Oneness Celebrations, is being organised by the American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue (AHEAD) Forum in collaboration with hundreds of Hindu cultural, spiritual, service and community organisations from across the country. The gathering will coincide with Raksha Bandhan and is expected to bring together representatives from a wide range of Hindu organisations and community groups.
According to the organisers, the programme will focus on themes including unity, civic responsibility, social harmony, interfaith understanding and community service. Bhagwat, who has headed the RSS since 2009, is expected to deliver the principal address at the event.
His participation is likely to draw considerable attention in the United States and internationally, given his limited appearances at large public events in the country. Organisers said the gathering would provide a platform for Hindu Americans from different linguistic, regional, cultural and organisational backgrounds to come together around shared values while maintaining their distinct traditions.

The significance of Raksha Bandhan will also be expanded beyond the traditional bond between siblings. According to the organisers, the festival's message of protection and mutual responsibility will be extended to relationships between communities, nations, humanity and nature.
The gathering is expected to attract community leaders, entrepreneurs, doctors, educators, lawyers, artists, elected representatives, veterans, youth leaders, religious figures and volunteers. Delegations are also expected from temples, yoga organisations, educational institutions, service groups, linguistic and regional associations, cultural bodies and interfaith organisations.
The organisers described the Universal Oneness Celebrations as an effort to demonstrate how a diverse community can come together around common values while continuing to preserve its cultural identity and traditions.
