Tamil Nadu to Host Investors’ Summit, Targets Over Rs 1 Lakh Crore Investment

Chennai, Aug 2026 : The Tamil Nadu government will host the Vetri Tamil Nadu Investors’ Summit in Chennai on Thursday as part of its drive to attract more than Rs 1 lakh crore in industrial investments during the first 100 days of the new administration.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will preside over the summit at Guindy, which is expected to bring together senior government officials, industrialists, investors and representatives of leading companies. The event is being positioned as a major platform to showcase Tamil Nadu’s investment potential across manufacturing, technology, services and other sectors.

During the summit, the state government is expected to sign memoranda of understanding with 97 companies, involving proposed investments of around Rs 67,452 crore. The projects are projected to create approximately 1,06,998 employment opportunities across different sectors.

The summit comes as the new government completes 96 days in office. Since assuming power, the administration has focused on administrative reforms while placing industrial expansion, employment generation and investment promotion among its key priorities.

Joseph Vijay took oath as Tamil Nadu’s 12th Chief Minister on May 10 after his party secured victory in the election to the 17th Legislative Assembly. Since then, the government has intensified discussions with domestic and international investors, seeking to strengthen the state’s position as a preferred destination for manufacturing, technology and service-sector projects.

The latest investment agreements are expected to significantly contribute to the government’s target for its first 100 days. Including agreements signed over the past three months, the administration expects to complete 104 MoUs, representing a combined investment commitment of approximately Rs 1,02,514 crore and the potential creation of 1,21,788 jobs.

Officials expect the proposed investments to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem and generate employment opportunities for skilled professionals, graduates and young jobseekers. The projects could also support ancillary industries and create additional opportunities for local businesses and service providers.

A key focus of the government following the signing of the MoUs will be ensuring that investment commitments translate into projects on the ground. Authorities are expected to highlight measures aimed at speeding up regulatory clearances, coordinating approvals between departments and maintaining regular engagement with investors.

The government is also likely to provide details of participating companies, proposed project locations and sector-wise investment commitments during the summit.

Thursday’s event is therefore expected to serve as an important early milestone for the administration as it seeks to demonstrate its ability to attract large-scale investments within a relatively short period.

With the proposed MoUs taking the state’s investment commitments beyond the Rs 1 lakh crore mark, the summit is expected to underline Tamil Nadu’s broader strategy of combining industrial growth with employment generation and economic development.
