Hyderabad, Aug 2026 : The Telangana Legislative Assembly session will begin on September 7, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy informed MLAs during a meeting at the Secretariat on Monday.
The Chief Minister reviewed development programmes and ongoing works in various Assembly constituencies and directed legislators to expedite pending land acquisition for irrigation projects. He stressed that delays in acquiring land could significantly affect the completion of major infrastructure and irrigation initiatives.
Revanth Reddy said the government would provide necessary financial support for land acquisition, Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) measures and obtaining forest clearances. He urged legislators to give greater attention to development activities in their respective constituencies and ensure that projects do not remain stalled because of administrative or land-related issues.
“Projects will never be completed if land acquisition is delayed,” the Chief Minister said, according to officials familiar with the meeting.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka, besides several MPs and MLAs, attended the meeting.
The government has not yet officially announced the duration of the Assembly session or the detailed legislative agenda. However, the session is expected to take up an important proposal previously announced by the Chief Minister concerning the minimum age for contesting elections.
The Telangana government is likely to move a resolution seeking a reduction in the minimum age for contesting elections to the Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha from the existing 25 years to 21 years. The resolution, if adopted, would be forwarded to the Centre for consideration and could eventually pave the way for the introduction of an amendment Bill in Parliament.
Revanth Reddy had raised the issue last month, arguing that younger people should be given greater opportunities to participate directly in legislative politics. He had called for amendments to the relevant electoral law to allow candidates to contest Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from the age of 21, while proposing that the minimum age for contesting Rajya Sabha elections be fixed at 25.
The Chief Minister has repeatedly stressed the importance of increasing youth participation in democratic institutions. He said the voices and aspirations of young people should have greater representation in the Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Earlier, Revanth Reddy had announced plans to convene a special session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council during the first week of August to adopt a resolution on reducing the minimum age for contesting Assembly elections. However, the proposed special session was subsequently deferred.
With the Assembly session now scheduled to begin on September 7, attention is expected to focus on the government’s legislative agenda, constituency development, irrigation projects and the proposed electoral reform resolution.
