Hyderabad, Aug 2026: Telangana Young India Physical Education and Sports University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korea National Sports University (KNSU), marking a significant step towards strengthening high-performance sports and athlete development in the state, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister said Telangana was preparing not only to support India’s ambition of hosting the 2036 Olympics but also to develop athletes capable of winning medals and bringing glory to the country.
“Delighted to share that the Young India Physical Education & Sports University has signed an MoU with the Korea National Sport University (KNSU) - one of the world’s leading institutions for high-performance sports,” Revanth Reddy said in a post on X.
Recalling his earlier visit to South Korea, the Chief Minister said he had held discussions with a senior delegation from KNSU, including its President Moon Won-Jae, regarding a potential partnership with Telangana’s proposed sports university.
He described the agreement as more than just an institutional partnership, saying it would create a bridge between Telangana’s sporting talent and global expertise in athlete training, sports science and high-performance education.
Revanth Reddy highlighted KNSU’s contribution to South Korea’s Olympic success, noting that athletes trained at the university won 16 of the country’s 32 medals at the Paris Olympics. He said Telangana wanted to develop a similar culture of excellence and create an ecosystem capable of producing elite athletes.
“From our villages and towns to the Olympic podium - Telangana is preparing for the journey,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the state was determined to be ready as India looks towards the 2036 Olympics.
He said Telangana’s ambition extended beyond hosting the prestigious global sporting event, with equal emphasis on producing athletes who could compete successfully at the highest international level.
The Chief Minister thanked Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, officials of the Sports Ministry and the Young India Sports University for taking forward the initiative and creating new opportunities for young athletes to learn from international sporting institutions.
Last month, Revanth Reddy, along with Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, inaugurated the Gachibowli Sports District and Young India Physical Education and Sports University.
The state government has announced plans to develop the sports university and a world-class sports academy equipped with state-of-the-art facilities across 82 acres. The facilities are expected to provide athletes with access to modern training infrastructure, sports science support and specialised coaching.
With India pursuing its bid to host the 2036 Olympics, Revanth Reddy has repeatedly expressed his ambition to see Hyderabad and Telangana play a central role in the event.
He said preparations were being undertaken across multiple areas to ensure that Telangana and Hyderabad are equipped to host the Olympics while simultaneously building a strong sporting ecosystem capable of nurturing talent from the grassroots level to the international stage.
