Mamit, August 2026: The 9th Inter-District Wrestling Championship 2026 concluded today at the Mamit Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, with Mamit Additional Deputy Commissioner Carolyn L.B. Khiangte attending the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Khiangte conveyed greetings to all participants on behalf of the Mamit District Sports Committee and expressed happiness that Mamit district had hosted a state-level wrestling championship. She appreciated the Mamit District Wrestling Association for successfully organising the event.
The chief guest said she hoped the participating wrestlers would become disciplined, drug-free and inspiring individuals. She encouraged them to remain free from substance abuse and serve as role models for others. She also urged the young wrestlers not to neglect their studies and to use sports as a constructive way of spending their leisure time while making learning more enjoyable.
Khiangte said the participants had demonstrated that wrestling is truly a gentleman's sport. She praised them for maintaining discipline and showing mutual respect even when facing defeat. According to her, wrestling develops not only physical strength but also mental resilience and discipline.
She encouraged Mizo boys and girls involved in wrestling to continue working hard and aspire to compete at major international sporting events, including the Olympic Games, bringing glory not only to Mizoram but also to India.
The 9th Inter-District Wrestling Championship 2026 was organised by the Mizoram Wrestling Association. Kolasib District emerged as the Team Champion, winning seven gold medals, while Aizawl District finished as runners-up with six gold medals.
The individual awards were presented as follows:
- Most Promising Girl: Mary Lalduhawmi, Mamit District
- Most Promising Boy: Benjamin C. Lalrempuia, Aizawl District
- Best Wrestler – Girls: Ruthi Lalmuatdiki, Kolasib District
- Best Wrestler – Boys: Johny Lalhlawntluanga, Saitual District
A total of 186 wrestlers participated in the championship, including 45 girls and 141 boys.
The district-wise participation was:
- Mamit District: 12 girls and 36 boys
- Aizawl District: 6 girls and 31 boys
- Kolasib District: 10 girls and 16 boys
- Serchhip District: 5 girls and 23 boys
- Lunglei District: 1 boy
- Saitual District: 12 girls and 34 boys
The closing session was chaired by Vanlalruata, Vice President of the Mizoram Wrestling Association, while Ngurthansanga, President of the Mizoram Wrestling Association, delivered the closing remarks.
