New Delhi, Aug 2026 : Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday led a Tiranga Yatra from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in New Delhi, calling upon citizens to remember the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and draw inspiration from the country’s Independence movement.
Speaking to reporters during the yatra, Naidu said the progress India has witnessed in recent years reflects the country’s growing confidence and development aspirations. He said the Civil Aviation Ministry has also achieved several milestones and remains committed to expanding the sector and making air travel increasingly accessible to ordinary citizens.
“Over the last 12 years, our country has witnessed remarkable development under the vision and leadership of our respected Prime Minister. We have achieved several milestones in our ministry as well. Today, even a common citizen can fly with pride. We will continue to strengthen this sector and take it to greater heights. We remain fully committed to the goal of a developed India,” he said.
The minister also underlined the importance of remembering the sacrifices and struggles of those who fought for India’s freedom. He said the younger generation should draw inspiration from the courage and dedication displayed during the Independence movement.
“It is our responsibility to respect the sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers during the Independence movement and draw inspiration from them,” Naidu said.
He also spoke about the importance of the national anthem in strengthening the emotional bond among citizens. According to the minister, the national anthem has helped foster a sense of unity among people across the country.
The Tiranga Yatra was organised as part of the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day. The initiative seeks to encourage citizens to bring the national flag into their homes and proudly display it as a symbol of national pride and unity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on August 9 urged citizens to participate actively in the campaign, describing the Tricolour as a source of pride and motivation. Sharing a Ministry of Culture post on X, Modi said the national flag should inspire citizens to contribute towards building a developed India.
This year's campaign is being conducted under the theme ‘Vande Mataram’, highlighting the enduring significance of the national song and its association with India's freedom struggle.
Launched under the broader Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, Har Ghar Tiranga aims to deepen citizens’ personal connection with the national flag. The campaign seeks to take the Tricolour beyond government offices and official ceremonies and make it a visible symbol of personal pride and collective national identity.
The Ministry of Culture is the nodal ministry coordinating the campaign. Through activities such as Tiranga Yatras, citizens are being encouraged to participate in Independence Day celebrations and reflect on the values associated with the freedom struggle.
The campaign also seeks to promote awareness about the history and significance of the Indian National Flag while encouraging patriotic participation across communities.
Naidu's Tiranga Yatra comes as the country prepares to celebrate Independence Day on August 15. The event combined a message of national pride with an emphasis on India's development journey, with the minister reiterating the government's commitment to strengthening civil aviation and contributing to the broader goal of building a Viksit Bharat.
