Health Assessment Camp Held for Persons with Disabilities under Project LEAP at Ṭawipui South

As part of Lunglei District Administration’s initiative under Project LEAP (Lunglei’s Empowerment for Access and Equity for all Persons), a health assessment camp was organized today at Ṭawipui South Primary Health Centre (PHC) for persons with disabilities.

The camp was conducted by the Project LEAP team in collaboration with the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign team under the supervision of Sub-Deputy Commissioner Pi Lalnunchhani Hnamte. Medical professionals from Civil Hospital Lunglei including Dr. Joseph Lalrindika Chawngthu (Senior Orthopaedic Specialist), Pi Rachel Malsawmkimi (Audiologist), Pu Challiandinga (Clinical Psychologist), and Pi Lalrempuii (Ophthalmic Assistant) conducted health check-ups for the beneficiaries.

A total of 42 persons with disabilities were assessed and enrolled on the UDID (Unique Disability Identity) portal for the issuance of UDID cards. Participants were also measured for assistive devices as part of the camp’s support.

In addition, the medical team carried out screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including hypertension and diabetes under the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign. Out of 33 individuals screened, 4 new cases of high blood pressure and 1 new case of diabetes were detected.
