DVC Signs 300 MW Power Deal with Karnataka DISCOMs

Agreement marks a key step in inter-state energy cooperation; thermal power to be sourced from Koderma Phase-II

In a significant move towards enhancing inter-state energy cooperation, Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply 300 MW of round-the-clock (RTC) thermal power to Karnataka’s five electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs). The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Power Company of Karnataka Limited (PCKL) in Bengaluru.

The power will be supplied from DVC’s upcoming Koderma Thermal Power Station Phase-II (2×800 MW), which is currently under development. This latest agreement adds to the existing 450 MW of RTC power that Karnataka already receives from DVC, further bolstering the state’s energy security.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from DVC, PCKL, and the five Karnataka DISCOMs—BESCOM, HESCOM, MESCOM, GESCOM, and CESC. The collaboration was facilitated by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and underscores DVC’s growing role as a pan-India power supplier.

Arup Sarkar, Member (Finance), DVC, stated, “We are proud to deepen our partnership with Karnataka. This agreement demonstrates DVC’s capacity to provide dependable thermal power beyond our traditional regions and reinforces our commitment to energy security and sustainability.”

PCKL Managing Director Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, IAS, said, “This agreement ensures a reliable and cost-effective power supply for Karnataka and strengthens our energy portfolio.”

Other DVC officials present included Sanjiv Shrivastava, Executive Director (Commercial), Samit Mandal, Sr GM (Commercial), and Prasenjit Mandal, DGM (Commercial). Representatives from PCKL and the participating DISCOMs were also in attendance.

Construction is already underway at DVC’s upcoming Raghunathpur and Koderma Thermal Power Station Phase-II projects. With this agreement, DVC has now secured PPAs for all three of its major upcoming power plants, totaling 3,720 MW of new generation capacity.

This strategic partnership not only ensures reliable power for Karnataka but also highlights growing cooperation between Indian states in the energy sector.
