Action Taken Against Use of Goods Vehicles for Transporting School Children
Mumbai : In Kalyan, it was observed that school children were being transported in a three-wheeler goods vehicle bearing registration number MH 05 EX 1734. Authorities traced the vehicle and imposed a fine of ₹14,000 for the violation.
The vehicle was penalized under the Motor Vehicles Act, and a challan was issued. Additionally, the vehicle was seized and marked as ‘blacklisted’ in its registration records.
Since the start of the first academic semester, the Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO), Kalyan, has been conducting special inspections of school transport vehicles. Over the past two months, action has been taken against 461 school buses and vans, resulting in a total fine collection of ₹2.36 lakh.
According to the Sub-Regional Transport Officer of Kalyan, routine inspections of school vehicles are conducted regularly. Meetings are also held with the District School Bus Committee and school-level transport committees to ensure strict adherence to school transport regulations.
