Visakhapatnam Set to Anchor India’s AI Revolution with $15 Billion Data Centre Investment
Visakhapatnam, April 2026 : India’s ambitions to emerge as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) will depend heavily on building large-scale infrastructure within the country, said Jeet Adani, Director of the Adani Group, while addressing a landmark event marking the foundation of a major AI data centre project in Visakhapatnam.
Highlighting the scale of the vision, Adani announced that the Adani Group has committed a massive $100 billion investment toward developing a comprehensive platform to support India’s AI growth. This platform integrates energy generation, transmission networks, digital connectivity, and advanced data centre infrastructure—designed to be scalable, resilient, and powered by clean, reliable energy.
“Our role is to enable the ecosystem that AI depends on,” he said, emphasizing that the future of artificial intelligence will be shaped not just by algorithms, but by the infrastructure and energy systems that sustain it. He underlined that affordability is key to widespread AI adoption, and that begins with efficient and accessible energy.
The project has drawn significant global attention, with Google committing approximately $15 billion—making it one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s history. The AI data centre campus, being developed in collaboration with AdaniConneX and other partners, is expected to be the largest of its kind outside the United States.
Adani noted that energy efficiency and scale will play a decisive role in accelerating AI adoption. “As computing becomes cheaper, intelligence becomes more affordable. When intelligence is accessible, innovation accelerates and growth becomes more inclusive,” he said.
The upcoming facility will leverage cutting-edge infrastructure similar to that powering major global platforms such as Google Search, Workspace, and YouTube. It is expected to significantly boost India’s digital capabilities while supporting enterprise innovation and expanding access to advanced technologies.
Positioning India as a future hub for digital intelligence, Adani asserted that the country is not only preparing to adopt AI but also to shape and democratize it. “The real power of AI will be measured by how widely it is used, and that journey begins here,” he remarked.
Drawing a comparison with Bengaluru’s role in India’s IT revolution, Adani said Visakhapatnam is poised to become the focal point of the country’s AI transformation. Currently, India has around 1.3 GW of data centre capacity, but the Visakhapatnam project alone is expected to approach nearly 1 GW—highlighting the scale of the shift underway.
With strong foundations in trust, execution capability, and energy infrastructure, India is entering a new era in AI development—one that could position it at the forefront of the global digital economy.
