Mizoram Governor Addresses 108th Anniversary of Historic Delhi War Conference
Aizawl, May 2026: Mizoram Governor, General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), today addressed a commemorative programme marking the “108th Anniversary of the Historic Delhi War Conference (1918)” at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
Speaking at a special symposium, the Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh emphasised that a true soldier does not fight for rewards, but for duty, honour and the unwavering belief that his sacrifice serves the nation. He highlighted the immense yet often under-recognised contribution of Indian soldiers in the First World War. He pointed out that over 1.3 million Indian troops served, with nearly 74,000 laying down their lives – their sacrifices etched forever at India Gate. Beyond manpower, India also provided critical financial and logistical support under colonial rule, he added.
The symposium, themed “Pratham Vishvayudh aur Bharat,” also featured the formal release of a commemorative book titled “Proceedings of the War Conference held at Delhi, 27th-29th April 1918,” by the Governor.
The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Mr. Vijender Gupta, presided over the programme. The event was attended by Vice Chairman of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Smriti Mr. Vijay Goel and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Mr. Mohan Singh Bisht, among others.
