Advanced Vessel Sealer Equipment Installed at KEM Hospital; Will Benefit Poor Patients, Improve Surgical Safety: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, May 2026 : A significant step has been taken to strengthen public healthcare services in Maharashtra, with the installation of advanced “high-end vessel sealer” equipment at Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai. The initiative is expected to greatly improve the quality and precision of surgical procedures, while providing relief to economically weaker patients.

The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has introduced the facility as part of efforts to ensure that advanced medical technologies are available in public hospitals. The newly installed equipment has been provided under a CSR initiative, with two advanced electro-surgical units set up in the General Surgery Department at the “Elective Surgery Operation Theatre” in the Jamsetjee Mehta surgical block.

KEM Hospital, one of Mumbai’s largest public healthcare institutions, caters to thousands of patients every day, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds. Officials noted that the introduction of such modern equipment was a long-standing requirement to improve surgical outcomes in a high-pressure environment.

The vessel sealer technology is designed to control bleeding during surgery by sealing blood vessels efficiently. This helps reduce blood loss, improves surgical accuracy, and enhances patient safety. Doctors say the equipment will be especially useful in complex surgical procedures, where controlling bleeding quickly is critical for successful outcomes.

With reduced complications and faster surgical procedures, the new system is expected to significantly ease the workload on medical staff while ensuring better recovery prospects for patients. Hospital authorities also highlighted that the technology will allow surgeons to perform operations with greater efficiency and precision.

The project has been supported by Indian Oil Corporation, for which Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed gratitude. He said that collaboration between public institutions and corporate partners is essential to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to healthcare, the Chief Minister said, “Ensuring quality and advanced medical treatment for every citizen is a priority of the government. Such initiatives enhance the capacity of public hospitals and provide major relief to needy patients.”

He added that the installation of advanced surgical systems in government hospitals would help bridge the gap between public and private healthcare facilities, making modern treatment more accessible to economically weaker sections of society.

Officials stated that the initiative marks an important milestone in upgrading Maharashtra’s public health system, with a focus on improving surgical standards, reducing risks, and expanding access to modern medical technology for all sections of society.
