Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Likely to Meet Congress High Command in Delhi Amid Cabinet Reshuffle Buzz

Bengaluru, May 2026 : Amid growing speculation over leadership dynamics and an impending cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly been summoned to New Delhi by the Congress high command, triggering fresh political discussions within the state unit.

According to party sources, Siddaramaiah has been asked to visit Delhi on May 26 for discussions. While the official agenda is stated to revolve around preparations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, political observers believe that several other key issues may also be taken up during the meeting.

These include the long-pending cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, possible power-sharing arrangements within the state leadership, and the selection of candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections. The developments have intensified speculation about internal equations within the ruling Congress in the state.

The Congress high command had earlier indicated that it would focus on Karnataka affairs after concluding government formation-related matters in Kerala. With renewed discussions around cabinet expansion and leadership adjustments, the reported Delhi summons has added momentum to ongoing political chatter.

However, Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar said he was unaware of any such communication from the party leadership regarding Siddaramaiah’s proposed visit to Delhi.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru near his residence in Sadashivanagar, Shivakumar said he had no confirmed information on the matter.

“I have just come out of a meeting. I do not have any information regarding this matter,” he said when asked about the reported development.

When questioned further about whether the Chief Minister had been summoned in connection with Rajya Sabha elections or a possible leadership change, Shivakumar responded briefly, saying, “I do not know.”

The uncertainty surrounding the Delhi meeting has further fuelled speculation about internal equations within the Karnataka Congress, particularly regarding future cabinet restructuring and leadership balance.

Political observers note that discussions over cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation have been pending for some time, and the reported high command intervention may signal an effort to streamline decision-making within the state government.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders have also sought to capitalise on the situation. Karnataka BJP in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agrawal had earlier alleged that Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge was attempting to create divisions between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for political advantage.

Within the Congress, Shivakumar—who is widely seen as a key contender for the chief ministerial post—has maintained that leadership decisions rest solely with the party high command. He has repeatedly stated that dedication and hard work, rather than speculation, will determine political outcomes.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has also downplayed rumours of a leadership tussle, asserting that any decision regarding the Chief Minister’s post would be taken only by the party leadership at the national level.
