Rajat Patidar Keeps Focus on Present as RCB Eye Back-to-Back IPL Titles Against Gujarat Titans
Ahmedabad, May 2026 : Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has adopted a calm and measured approach ahead of the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans, insisting that the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium is “just another game” despite the enormous stakes involved.
RCB enter Sunday’s final as defending champions and one of the most dominant teams of the season. After finishing at the top of the league table, Bengaluru sealed a direct berth in the title clash with a commanding 92-run victory over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1. The result reinforced their status as one of the strongest sides in the tournament and put them within touching distance of a second consecutive IPL crown.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Patidar said the team was carrying positive memories from last year’s championship-winning campaign at the same venue but stressed the importance of staying grounded and focused on the present.
“Feeling great. We are in back-to-back finals and once again at the same ground where we experienced some unforgettable moments last season. There are a lot of memories associated with this venue, but for me it is still a normal game,” Patidar said in a video released by the franchise.
The RCB skipper believes that managing emotions and avoiding unnecessary pressure will be crucial in a high-profile final. Rather than thinking about the result or the significance of the occasion, he wants his players to concentrate on executing their plans and playing their natural game.
“I always try to treat big matches like any other game. I prefer to stay in the present and focus on what is in front of me. Thinking too much about the final or the result only adds pressure. The key is to remain calm, enjoy the moment and focus on the process,” he explained.
RCB’s journey to the final has been built on consistency and collective effort. The franchise finished the league stage with nine victories from 14 matches and produced several memorable performances against top teams, including Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings. Even when faced with challenging situations during the campaign, Bengaluru found ways to bounce back and maintain momentum.
Patidar credited the entire squad for the team’s success, highlighting the contributions of players across departments.
“We should be proud of how we have played throughout the tournament. Every player has contributed in some way and everyone has stepped up when required. That is a very positive sign for us as a team,” he said.
Returning to the Narendra Modi Stadium, where RCB lifted the trophy last year, has added an emotional element to the final. However, Patidar believes the team must use those memories as motivation rather than distraction.
“We have great memories here, and we would love to create some more in the coming days. It is a special venue for us, but we know we still have one more important job to do,” he added.
Head coach Andy Flower echoed his captain’s sentiments and praised the squad for the effort and determination that have brought them to another final.
“The players have done a remarkable job throughout the season to reach this stage. They have played with courage, skill and consistency. Finishing at the top of such a competitive league takes a lot of hard work and mental strength,” Flower said.
The former Zimbabwe captain also emphasized the importance of simplifying things under pressure.
“When the pressure increases, it is often best to keep things simple. Players need clarity and confidence in their plans. I believe our group understands that and will approach the final with the right mindset,” he said.
RCB now stand on the verge of creating history. A victory over Gujarat Titans would make them only the third franchise in IPL history to successfully defend their title and win back-to-back championships. With momentum on their side and confidence running high, Patidar and his men will be eager to seize the opportunity and add another memorable chapter to the franchise’s growing legacy.
