BCCI Appoints Sairaj Bahutule as Spin Bowling Coach of Indian Men’s Cricket Team
Mumbai, June 2026 : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the appointment of former India all-rounder Sairaj Bahutule as the spin bowling coach of the senior men’s national cricket team. In his new role, Bahutule will be responsible for mentoring and developing India’s upcoming generation of spinners across all formats of the game.
In an official statement, the BCCI confirmed the appointment, saying, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Sairaj Bahutule as the Spin Bowling Coach of the Indian Cricket Team (Senior Men).”
Bahutule, who represented India in two Test matches and eight One-Day Internationals during his playing career, brings with him extensive coaching experience gained across domestic cricket, player development pathways, and international assignments. His appointment is seen as part of the board’s continued focus on strengthening specialist coaching roles within the national setup.
A stalwart of Mumbai domestic cricket, Bahutule enjoyed a distinguished first-class career spanning nearly two decades. He accumulated 6,176 runs and claimed 630 wickets, establishing himself as one of the most consistent and reliable all-rounders in India’s domestic circuit. His dual skill set as a batter and a bowler made him a valuable contributor to his teams over the years.
Expressing his gratitude on being entrusted with the role, Bahutule said the appointment was a matter of immense pride. “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the Spin Bowling Coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team. Representing India as a player was a matter of immense pride, and the opportunity to contribute to Indian cricket once again in a coaching capacity is deeply special,” he said. He further added that he looked forward to working closely with the players and supporting the team’s pursuit of excellence across formats.
Following his retirement from professional cricket, Bahutule transitioned into coaching and quickly built a strong reputation in the field. He has served as head coach for several domestic teams, including Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat, and Bengal, guiding young cricketers and contributing to team development at the state level.
He has also been associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he worked as a spin bowling coach for franchises such as Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. His expertise has been widely acknowledged in nurturing spin talent and refining the skills of emerging bowlers.
Bahutule’s coaching credentials include key roles with India’s junior and developmental teams. He was part of the coaching staff during India’s victorious ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign in 2022 and continued his involvement in the 2024 edition as well.
Additionally, he has worked with India A and the senior men’s team as a specialist bowling coach on multiple occasions, gaining valuable exposure at the highest level. From 2021 to 2024, he was an integral part of the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy, now known as the Centre of Excellence, where he played a significant role in identifying and grooming emerging cricketing talent.
With this appointment, the BCCI aims to further strengthen India’s spin bowling resources, an area that has traditionally been a key strength for the national team.
