Crackdown on unauthorized buses intensified; several goods vehicles seized

Lucknow, June 2026 : The government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is highly committed to ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property on the roads. To reduce road accidents across the state, encourage compliance with traffic regulations, and foster a culture of responsible driving among citizens, various awareness and enforcement campaigns are being conducted.

In this regard, the Transport Department, in coordination with other concerned departments, carried out a special enforcement drive and took large-scale action within just seven days.

According to the Transport Department, during the special enforcement campaign conducted across Uttar Pradesh from May 20 to May 26, a total of 57,186 challans were issued for traffic violations, while 2,669 vehicles were seized.

Helmets and seat belts are considered crucial in reducing fatalities and injuries in road accidents. Therefore, special emphasis was placed on these two aspects during the campaign.

A total of 23,758 challans were issued to riders and drivers for not wearing helmets, while 9,083 challans were issued for not wearing seat belts.

The use of mobile phones while driving significantly increases the risk of accidents. To raise awareness and discourage this practice, action was taken against 3,676 individuals found using mobile phones while driving.

To prevent road accidents, the department also intensified action against unauthorized buses. Across the state, 1,502 unauthorized buses were fined, and more than 400 buses were seized.

Similarly, over 1,000 challans were issued against goods vehicles illegally carrying passengers, and 91 such vehicles were seized.

Through the campaign, people were educated about the importance of wearing helmets, fastening seat belts, avoiding overloading, and not using mobile phones while driving.

The government has also made it clear that the objective of the campaign is not merely punitive action, but also to encourage citizens to voluntarily follow traffic rules and adopt safer driving practices.
