Capsey, Knight Power England to Series-Clinching Win Over India Ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup

Taunton, June 2026 : England produced a commanding batting performance to defeat India by six wickets in the third and final Women’s T20 International at Taunton, sealing the three-match series 2-1 and gaining valuable momentum ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, which begins on June 12.

A brilliant 137-run partnership between Alice Capsey and Heather Knight helped England recover from an early collapse and chase down a challenging target of 181 in just 18.3 overs. The victory marked England’s highest successful run chase in Women’s T20 Internationals since 2018.

Chasing 181, England endured a shaky start as India’s pace attack struck early. Kranti Goud removed Danni Wyatt-Hodge in the second over before Arundhati Reddy dismissed Sophia Dunkley in the next over, leaving the hosts under pressure. Goud struck again at the end of the Powerplay, sending back Amy Jones as England slipped to 53/3.

However, Capsey and Knight then turned the match decisively in England’s favour with an aggressive counterattack. Capsey took charge from the outset, punishing anything loose and maintaining a brisk scoring rate. Knight provided excellent support while steadily building momentum against both pace and spin.

The pair dominated the Indian bowling attack through the middle overs, ensuring the required run rate never became an issue. Capsey reached a sparkling half-century from just 26 deliveries, while Knight gradually accelerated her innings with a series of well-timed boundaries.

Capsey’s innings was particularly destructive against the spinners. She struck a boundary and two successive sixes off Shree Charani, reducing the target dramatically and leaving England needing only 28 runs from the final five overs.

Although Capsey eventually departed after a match-winning 82 off 43 balls, England were firmly in control by then. Knight remained unbeaten on 70 from 42 deliveries and fittingly hit the winning boundary in the penultimate over to complete a memorable chase.

Earlier, India posted a competitive 180/5 after being asked to bat first. The visitors also faced early setbacks as both openers departed cheaply. Shafali Verma scored 11 before falling to an ill-judged shot, while Smriti Mandhana was trapped leg-before by Charlie Dean.

Yastika Bhatia once again impressed at the top of the order, continuing her strong form throughout the series. She played an aggressive knock, striking seven boundaries and helping India race to 57 during the Powerplay. Her promising innings, however, ended unexpectedly with a run-out.

Following the early wickets, Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur rebuilt the innings with a crucial partnership. Rodrigues looked settled before Lauren Bell deceived her with a slower delivery that crashed into the stumps.

Harmanpreet anchored the innings superbly, mixing caution with aggression as she guided India through the middle overs. The skipper brought up a well-crafted half-century and remained unbeaten on 56. However, England tightened their grip in the closing stages, restricting India to just 48 runs in the final five overs, preventing the visitors from posting an even bigger total.

The result gives England a significant confidence boost heading into the World Cup, while India will look to address bowling concerns despite several encouraging batting performances throughout the series.

Match Summary:

India Women: 180/5 in 20 overs (Harmanpreet Kaur 56*, Yastika Bhatia 32; Lauren Bell 2/36)

England Women: 184/4 in 18.3 overs (Alice Capsey 82, Heather Knight 70*; Arundhati Reddy 2/31)

England won by 6 wickets and clinched the three-match series 2-1.
