Dalai Lama Presented Grammy Award in Dharamshala for Message of Compassion and Humanity

Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), June 2026 : Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was formally presented his Grammy Award on Wednesday at his residence in Dharamshala in a special ceremony attended by celebrated sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

The prestigious award was conferred earlier this year in the Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording category for the album Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The project combines the Dalai Lama’s reflections on compassion, peace, mindfulness and the unity of humanity with the rich traditions of Indian classical music, creating a unique spiritual and artistic experience.

The presentation ceremony in Dharamshala celebrated not only a significant artistic achievement but also the global resonance of the values promoted by the Tibetan spiritual leader. The award-winning recording has been praised for its ability to blend wisdom, music and storytelling in a manner that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries.

Speaking to reporters after presenting the Grammy, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan described the occasion as a profound honour.

“It is a great privilege to be here and personally offer this Grammy Award to His Holiness the Dalai Lama,” he said, noting the global significance of the messages contained in the recording.

Upon receiving news of the Grammy win in February, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate had responded with characteristic humility. He stated that he viewed the recognition not as a personal achievement but as an acknowledgement of universal values that are vital for humanity’s future.

The Dalai Lama emphasised that peace, compassion, environmental responsibility and an understanding of the interconnectedness of all people are essential for the well-being of the world’s population. He expressed hope that the Grammy recognition would help spread these messages to a wider audience across the globe.

The achievement drew congratulations from Tibetan leaders and supporters worldwide. Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel praised the award as recognition of the enduring power of spoken words and storytelling in communicating wisdom and universal human values.

Similarly, Tibetan political leader Penpa Tsering congratulated the spiritual leader for the international honour, describing the award-winning audiobook as a powerful vehicle for sharing messages of peace and understanding.

The Grammy recognition comes at a time when the Dalai Lama continues to engage global audiences through his writings and teachings. His recent book, Voice for the Voiceless, offers reflections on Tibet’s ongoing struggle, his decades-long interactions with China and his life in exile.

Born in Tibet, the Dalai Lama assumed leadership responsibilities at a young age following China’s takeover of the region in 1950. He later fled to India in 1959 and has since become one of the world’s most influential advocates for non-violence, compassion and interfaith harmony.

The Grammy honour adds another significant milestone to his global legacy, recognising the impact of his message far beyond politics and religion, and reinforcing his role as a worldwide symbol of peace, dialogue and human unity.
