Congress Fields Meenakshi Natarajan for Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, Announces Candidates Across States

Bhopal, June 2026 : The Congress on Thursday unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections and bypolls, with the nomination of Meenakshi Natarajan from Madhya Pradesh emerging as one of the most significant decisions in the party’s latest parliamentary strategy.

The announcement signals Natarajan’s return to national politics and reflects the party’s confidence in her organisational abilities, political experience, and grassroots connect. A former Lok Sabha member and a senior Congress leader known for her close association with Rahul Gandhi, Natarajan has long been regarded as one of the party’s key ideological voices.

The list was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and officially released by AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal. The nominations reflect the party’s effort to strengthen its presence in the Upper House by combining experienced leaders with individuals who have played important organisational and policy roles.

Among the prominent names announced from Karnataka are Pawan Khera and Mansoor Ali Khan. Both leaders have been active in articulating the party’s positions on national issues and are expected to enhance the Congress’ voice in parliamentary debates.

From Rajasthan, the party has nominated Neeraj Dangi, while Tamil Nadu will see the candidature of Praveen Chakravarty, who is widely recognised for his work in policy formulation, economic analysis, and electoral strategy.

The Congress has also fielded Pranav Jha from Jharkhand, acknowledging his contribution to the party’s organisational structure and political activities in the state.

One of the most notable aspects of the list is the inclusion of Mallikarjun Kharge himself. His candidature underscores his continued role not only as the party’s national president but also as a senior parliamentarian expected to play a central role in shaping legislative discussions and opposition strategy in the Rajya Sabha.

Political observers view the nomination of Meenakshi Natarajan as particularly significant for Madhya Pradesh. Her selection is being seen as an attempt by the Congress to reinforce its organisational base in the state while elevating a leader with extensive experience in both parliamentary and party affairs.

The latest nominations also reflect the Congress’ broader strategy of balancing seasoned leadership with fresh energy and policy expertise. By bringing leaders from diverse political and organisational backgrounds into the Rajya Sabha, the party aims to strengthen its parliamentary intervention on key national issues.

With the Rajya Sabha elections approaching, the Congress leadership hopes that the new line-up will help bolster its presence in the Upper House and provide a stronger platform for advancing the party’s political and legislative agenda.
