Shreyas Iyer Credits Fielding Brilliance as SOBO Mumbai Falcons Clinch First Win in T20 Mumbai League

Mumbai, June 2026 : Shreyas Iyer hailed his team’s outstanding fielding effort and disciplined bowling comeback as SOBO Mumbai Falcons registered their first victory of the T20 Mumbai League 2026, defeating MSC Maratha Royals by three wickets in a thrilling contest at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

In a match that swung repeatedly between the two sides, the Falcons held their nerve in the closing stages to chase down a target of 153 and secure a memorable win in the final over.

The foundation for the victory was laid by the Falcons’ bowlers, who bounced back strongly after a challenging Power-play phase. After the Royals made a brisk start, the Falcons tightened their grip on the game through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, restricting their opponents to 152/9 in 20 overs.

The bowling attack was led by Akash Parkar and Yash Dicholkar, who claimed three wickets each while maintaining pressure throughout the middle and death overs.

Reflecting on the performance, Iyer said the team’s fielding standards proved decisive.

“It was an exciting game. The highlight was our fielding—the catches we held, the stops we made, and the way we fought back after the sixth over. That phase changed the momentum of the game and helped us restrict them to around 150. Looking at the wicket and the target, I felt it was a chase we could comfortably complete,” he said after the match.

The Falcons began their pursuit in aggressive fashion, with veteran wicketkeeper-batter Aditya Tare leading the charge. Tare smashed 42 runs from just 19 deliveries, providing early momentum and putting pressure on the Royals’ bowling attack.

He was well supported by Ishan Mulchandani, who contributed a steady 29 as the pair stitched together a 57-run opening partnership that laid a strong platform for the chase.

The innings gained further momentum when Iyer entered as the Impact Player. Displaying his trademark composure and stroke-making ability, the India batter scored 30 runs off 24 balls, striking two boundaries and two sixes. His partnership helped propel the Falcons to 106/2 by the 12th over, placing them firmly in control of the contest.

However, the Royals staged a dramatic fightback after Iyer’s dismissal. Regular wickets brought the game back to life as the Falcons lost four wickets for just 21 runs, creating tension and opening the door for a potential turnaround.

Despite the collapse, the Falcons managed to hold their composure in the closing overs and crossed the finish line with three wickets in hand.

Iyer praised the team’s positive approach and resilience under pressure.

“Tare gave us a tremendous start. Even though we lost a few wickets in the middle overs, the players trusted their instincts and stayed calm. Finishing the game in the last over made the victory even sweeter. What impressed me most was the intent shown by the team from the very first ball,” he said.

The win marked an important breakthrough for the Falcons after a difficult start to the tournament. Iyer also highlighted the significance of the T20 Mumbai League as a platform for emerging talent.

He noted that young players are gaining valuable exposure by competing alongside experienced cricketers and learning to handle pressure situations.

“The players are gaining important experience at this level. They will learn from the challenges and setbacks they have faced in the opening matches and return stronger. These experiences will help shape their attitude and approach going forward,” Iyer said.

The victory provides SOBO Mumbai Falcons with crucial momentum as they look to build on their success in the remainder of the tournament.
