Deputy Chief Minister Inspects Storm-Affected Areas in the City; Flags Off Bicycle Rally
Baramati, June 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of the district, Sunetra Ajit Pawar, has called for the replanting of trees that were uprooted during Friday’s storm and urged authorities and citizens to undertake extensive new tree plantation drives before the onset of the monsoon.
Earlier in the day, on the occasion of World Environment Day, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar flagged off a bicycle rally organized jointly by the Environmental Forum of India, Baramati Cycle Club, and Baramati Health Club. The rally was conducted along the route from Tiranga Circle to Poonawalla Garden Railway Station.
Following the event, Mrs. Pawar visited and inspected various storm-affected areas in Baramati city. The inspection was attended by Baramati Municipal Council President Sachin Satav, Sub-Divisional Officer Uttam Dighe, Baramati MIDC Regional Officer Hanumant Patil, Group Development Officer Kishor Mane, Municipal Chief Officer Pankaj Bhuse, and officials from various departments. Pune District Central Cooperative Bank Director Sambhaji Holkar, local public representatives, and office-bearers of the Environmental Forum of India, Baramati Cycle Club, and Baramati Health Club were also present.
Speaking during the inspection, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar said that the severe storm and heavy rains that struck Baramati city and surrounding areas on Friday had disrupted normal life for residents. However, due to the collective efforts of citizens and the round-the-clock work of various government agencies, normalcy was restored quickly.
She noted that several trees across the city had been uprooted during the storm and emphasized the need to replant them wherever possible. She also directed officials to ensure that appropriate measures are taken so that trees can better withstand strong winds during the upcoming monsoon season.
“Trees that have been uprooted should be replanted with their roots intact wherever feasible. At the same time, large-scale tree plantation should be undertaken before the monsoon. We must adopt measures to ensure that trees remain protected even during periods of strong winds and heavy rainfall,” she said.
Mrs. Pawar further stressed the importance of environmental conservation and community participation in maintaining green cover in urban and rural areas. She encouraged local organizations and residents to actively support tree plantation and preservation efforts.
During the inspection, she also spoke about the need to accelerate development activities now that the election code of conduct has ended. She urged officials to expedite ongoing infrastructure and public welfare projects and ensure that pending works are completed without delay.
Calling for coordinated efforts among government departments, local bodies, and public representatives, the Deputy Chief Minister said development initiatives should be carried out efficiently for the benefit of citizens.
She also appealed to stakeholders to take proactive steps toward realizing the vision of a developed Baramati taluka, referring to the long-term development goals associated with the region.
The visit combined both environmental and developmental priorities, with the Deputy Chief Minister emphasizing the importance of restoring damaged green spaces, enhancing environmental sustainability, and ensuring the speedy completion of public projects to support the region’s continued growth and development.
