Young Changemaker Jia Chandra Inspires Community with Message of Neurodiversity and Inclusion
Secunderabad, June 2026 : An evening of inspiration, empathy and awareness unfolded at Omsree Signet in Yapral on Sunday as 11-year-old Jia Chandra delivered a heartfelt presentation titled “Different Brains, Same World,” highlighting the importance of neurodiversity and inclusive communities.
Residents gathered to hear the young speaker share a powerful message about understanding and accepting people whose brains work differently. Through personal stories, humour and relatable examples, Jia encouraged the audience to look beyond stereotypes and embrace empathy over sympathy.
For Jia, the subject is deeply personal. Her elder brother, Abhi Chandra, who has a 75 per cent moderate intellectual disability and is on the autism spectrum, has been the driving force behind her efforts to learn about neurodiversity and advocate for inclusion.
During her presentation, Jia addressed common myths surrounding autism and neurodivergence, stressing that being different does not mean being less capable. She urged both children and adults to build communities rooted in kindness, understanding and acceptance.
“Different does not mean wrong,” was one of the key messages that resonated with the audience as Jia explained how empathy can transform lives and create a more inclusive society.
One of the most moving moments of the session was Jia’s account of her brother Abhi’s inspiring journey. Despite facing significant challenges, Abhi has excelled in roller and ice skating, demonstrating remarkable determination and resilience. He is now preparing to represent Telangana at the National Ice Skating Championships, organised by Special Olympics Bharat in Dehradun in July 2026.
Jia used the platform to appeal to the Telangana Sports Minister and the wider community to support Abhi’s sporting aspirations and create greater opportunities for neurodivergent athletes across the country.
Her presentation highlighted the need to recognise and nurture talent irrespective of disability, emphasizing that every individual deserves equal opportunities to shine.
The event concluded with a powerful message of hope and inclusion: “Different brains do not need fixing—they need understanding. After all, it is the same world, and there’s space in it for everyone.”
Jia’s thoughtful presentation left attendees inspired and reminded them that true inclusion begins with empathy, acceptance and celebrating the unique strengths of every individual.
