PM-Kisan 23rd Instalment Released: ₹18,880 Crore Transferred to 9.44 Crore Farmers, Gujarat Receives ₹1,025 Crore

June 2026 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday released the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, transferring more than ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of 9.44 crore farmers across India through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism. The release was made during a programme held in Tarkeshwar town of West Bengal’s Hooghly district.

The PM-Kisan scheme, launched in 2019, is one of the Centre’s flagship initiatives aimed at providing income support to farmers. Under the programme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each, credited directly to their bank accounts.

In Gujarat, more than 51.28 lakh farmers benefited from the latest instalment, receiving over ₹1,025 crore directly without any intermediaries. To mark the occasion, the state government organised a “PM Kisan Utsav Diwas” event in Gandhinagar under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani and Minister of State Ramesh Katara were also present at the programme.

During the event, assistance under various agriculture and horticulture schemes was distributed to beneficiary farmers. Farmers from different districts of Gujarat also watched a live telecast of Prime Minister Modi’s address and interacted with officials regarding government welfare initiatives for the agricultural sector.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving farmers’ incomes and strengthening rural livelihoods through sustainable agricultural development. He highlighted the government’s emphasis on water conservation, natural farming and modern agricultural practices as key pillars of Gujarat’s agricultural growth strategy.

Patel said that even in regions experiencing low rainfall, scientific farming methods and better resource management can ensure stable agricultural production. He noted that natural farming practices help improve soil health, maintain long-term productivity and provide farmers with opportunities to secure better market prices for their produce.

The Chief Minister also pointed to several infrastructure initiatives aimed at supporting farmers. He said the permissible lake-filling limit under the Narmada command area has been increased from three kilometres to seven kilometres, improving water availability for irrigation. In addition, the government has expanded support for fencing, storage facilities and other infrastructure, particularly benefiting small and marginal farmers.

Highlighting water security measures, Patel said programmes such as the Amrit Sarovar initiative and the construction of rainwater harvesting structures are being implemented across the state. These efforts are expected to enhance groundwater recharge and improve irrigation reliability, thereby reducing farmers’ dependence on erratic rainfall.

Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani described the PM-Kisan scheme as a significant source of assured financial support for farmers, helping them meet agricultural input costs and manage farming operations more effectively. He said the direct transfer of funds ensures transparency, eliminates middlemen and strengthens farmers’ confidence in government welfare programmes.

Vaghani added that the scheme, coupled with ongoing procurement and rural development initiatives, continues to play an important role in supporting the agricultural economy and enhancing the financial stability of farming households across Gujarat and the country.
