TVK Crosses Two Crore Membership Mark, Strengthening Its Position in Tamil Nadu Politics
Chennai, June 2026 : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has crossed a major organisational milestone by enrolling more than two crore members, party sources said on Saturday. The achievement highlights the rapid rise of the party, which has transformed from a newly launched political movement into the ruling force in Tamil Nadu within a remarkably short period.
Party leaders and supporters celebrated the accomplishment across social media platforms, describing it as a clear reflection of the growing public confidence in TVK and its governance agenda. The milestone comes just weeks after the party formed its first government in the state following its historic performance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay in February 2024, TVK quickly established itself as a major political force through extensive grassroots mobilisation and a large-scale membership campaign. From its inception, the party focused on building a strong organisational structure across districts, towns, villages, and urban centres, enabling it to expand its reach among diverse sections of society.
The membership drive was supported by thousands of volunteers and local organisers who worked at the booth level to connect directly with citizens. Special outreach programmes targeting youth, women, first-time voters, and rural communities helped the party gain momentum across the state. Public meetings, enrolment camps, and interactive campaigns further strengthened TVK’s presence and visibility.
Party functionaries said the campaign accelerated significantly in the months leading up to the Assembly elections. The leadership placed considerable emphasis on expanding the organisation at the grassroots level, ensuring that the party’s message reached every constituency in Tamil Nadu. This extensive groundwork is widely credited with helping TVK build a loyal support base ahead of its electoral debut.
The organisational growth translated into a stunning electoral breakthrough in the 2026 Assembly elections. Contesting its first-ever Assembly poll, TVK emerged as the single-largest political force in Tamil Nadu by winning 108 seats and securing an impressive 34.92 per cent vote share.
The result marked a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, ending decades of dominance by the two traditional Dravidian giants — the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The victory established Vijay as a major political leader and signalled the arrival of a new force in Tamil Nadu politics.
Following the election triumph, Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 10 and assumed office with the support of alliance partners. Since taking charge, the government has focused on implementing key welfare initiatives and fulfilling commitments made during the election campaign.
Party leaders believe the two-crore membership milestone is a testament to TVK’s expanding grassroots network and the enthusiasm generated by its emergence as a governing party. They argue that the growing membership base will strengthen the organisation further and enhance its ability to engage directly with citizens across the state.
According to party sources, TVK intends to continue expanding its outreach programmes while strengthening local-level structures to ensure sustained public participation. Leaders maintain that the party’s organisational growth, combined with its electoral success, positions it strongly for future political challenges and governance responsibilities.
With membership numbers continuing to rise and its government still in the early stages of its tenure, TVK appears determined to consolidate its position as a dominant force in Tamil Nadu’s evolving political landscape.
