Pune Realtor Murder Probe Deepens as Police Allege Fiancée Chose Killing Over Calling Off Wedding

Pune, June 27: The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal has taken a dramatic turn, with police claiming that the prime accused, Siya Goyal, admitted during questioning that she found it easier to eliminate her fiancé than to cancel their arranged marriage, fearing the emotional fallout for her family.

According to investigators, Goyal allegedly confessed that she was unwilling to go ahead with the marriage scheduled for November but did not have the courage to oppose her family or call off the alliance. Police sources claim she told interrogators that ending Agarwal’s life appeared to be the easier option rather than disappointing her parents.

The alleged disclosure has intensified the investigation, with police widening their probe into the roles of Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Investigators are examining digital evidence, questioning family members and piecing together the sequence of events that allegedly led to the killing.

Ketan Agarwal, a prominent realtor from Pune, died after falling from a cliff at Lohagad Fort on June 18. The incident was initially believed to be an accident. However, investigators now allege that Agarwal was murdered after Goyal and Chaudhary conspired to push him off the cliff because Goyal no longer wanted to marry him.

Police believe the murder was premeditated and have constituted six special investigation teams comprising officers from Pune Rural and Lonavala Police to probe every aspect of the case.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Goyal’s parents are currently being questioned at the Lonavala City Police Station. Her brother, Sahil Goyal, has also been summoned for a second round of interrogation after earlier spending nearly 10 hours answering investigators’ questions.

According to police, Sahil confirmed that he knew Chetan Chaudhary and revealed that his sister first met him during one of his cricket matches. Investigators claim the two later reconnected at a common friend’s Diwali gathering last year, after which their relationship allegedly became increasingly close.

Police have also examined call detail records, which they claim reveal extensive communication between the two accused. Investigators allege that Goyal and Chaudhary exchanged more than 2,000 phone calls since January this year, with their conversations amounting to nearly 238 hours in total. Officials believe the communication records could play a crucial role in establishing the alleged conspiracy behind Agarwal’s death.

Despite these findings, Goyal’s parents have reportedly denied having any interaction with Chaudhary. According to police, they maintain that they neither knew him personally nor had ever spoken to him.

Meanwhile, Goyal’s legal counsel has sought to downplay the alleged relationship, stating that Chaudhary was merely her friend and rejecting suggestions that the two had conspired to commit the crime.

Investigators say they have broadly identified the roles allegedly played by both accused and are now focusing on recovering deleted messages, call logs and other digital data from their mobile phones. Forensic experts are assisting in retrieving erased information that police believe may provide further evidence regarding the planning and execution of the alleged murder.

With the investigation continuing on multiple fronts, police are working to build a comprehensive case by combining witness statements, digital evidence and forensic findings before filing the final chargesheet. The case has attracted widespread public attention due to its sensational nature and the alleged motive behind the crime.
