Sanjay Singh Accuses VHP Chief Alok Kumar of Shielding Alleged Ram Temple Donation Scam Accused

New Delhi, July 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Sanjay Singh launched a sharp attack on Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International President Alok Kumar, accusing him of attempting to shield those allegedly involved in irregularities related to donations and financial transactions at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters on Sunday, Singh alleged that Alok Kumar’s letter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who is investigating the alleged Ram Temple donation case, was politically motivated and selectively omitted the names of several individuals who had publicly claimed to have witnessed alleged irregularities.

Key Allegations by Sanjay Singh

Singh questioned why Alok Kumar’s letter mentioned opposition leaders, including AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, himself, and Samajwadi Party leader Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav, while ignoring BJP, RSS, and VHP members who had publicly spoken about alleged thefts and corruption.

He specifically referred to Nripendra Misra, who has overseen the Ram Temple construction project, claiming that Misra had repeatedly stated in interviews that “it was not merely theft but outright robbery” at the temple premises. Singh asked why Misra’s name was absent from Kumar’s communication to the investigating authorities.

Ready to Join Investigation

Despite his criticism, Singh said he welcomed Alok Kumar’s letter and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

“I am fully prepared to join the investigation,” Singh said, adding that he would also bring along individuals who have publicly alleged that donated items—including silver padukas (sacred sandals), gold garlands, Ram Charit Manas manuscripts, and other religious offerings—had gone missing.

He announced that on Monday he would write to the investigating officer seeking the questioning of Gyanesh Kumar, who represented the Central Government on the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for four years.

Reference to Earlier Land Deal Allegations

Singh said he had first raised concerns in 2021 by filing a complaint at Ayodhya Kotwali police station regarding alleged irregularities in land purchases made by the Ram Temple Trust.

He claimed that the Trust had purchased land valued at around ₹2 crore for ₹18.5 crore within minutes of an earlier transaction and alleged that Trust General Secretary Champat Rai, Trust member Anil Mishra, and then BJP Mayor Hrishikesh Upadhyay were connected to the deal.

According to Singh, despite submitting documentary evidence five years ago, Alok Kumar had remained silent.

BJP Leaders Also Raised Concerns, Claims Singh

Singh also referred to letters allegedly written by former BJP media in-charge Dr Rajneesh Singh to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June, seeking an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged financial irregularities related to the Ram Temple Trust.

According to Singh, the letters demanded a special audit of donation collection, accounting, transportation, banking procedures, land purchases, construction expenses, and other financial transactions, besides making all audit reports publicly available.

He further claimed that after the Prime Minister’s Office sought information from the Ayodhya district administration, the Trust declined to provide details, citing an ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe.

Questions Over Omission of Names

Singh questioned why Alok Kumar had not recommended questioning several individuals who have publicly spoken about alleged corruption, including former BJP MP Vinay Katiyar, Mahant Dharam Das, Kamal Nayan Das, engineer Dinanath Verma, and VHP-RSS functionary Mahipal Singh.

He alleged that Mahipal Singh had publicly claimed to have informed senior VHP leaders about alleged thefts in temple donations as early as 2020-21 but was instead removed from his position.

“Why were these eyewitnesses not named in the letter? Instead of protecting them, Alok Kumar appears to be protecting the alleged wrongdoers,” Singh said.

More Documents to be Submitted

Singh said he had already submitted 13 documents to the SIT and claimed to possess additional evidence, which he intends to disclose soon.

He reiterated allegations regarding several land transactions, claiming that properties were purchased at significantly inflated prices and called for a comprehensive investigation into all financial dealings related to the Trust.

The AAP leader concluded by announcing that he would submit another letter to the investigating authorities, requesting the questioning of additional individuals associated with the Trust and those who had publicly raised concerns over its functioning.
