Chief Minister Lalduhoma Attends Joint Hnampual Meet 2026

Aizawl, July 2026 : Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma today attended the Joint Hnampual Meet 2026 as the chief guest at LPS Arena, Falkland, Aizawl. The event was organised by the Joint Hnampual Students’ Organisation (JHSO). Adviser to the Chief Minister (Political) Lalmuanpuia Punte attended as the guest of honour, while CYMA Vice President Prof. Lalnuntluanga presided over the programme.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed happiness over the formation of the Joint Students’ Organisation by seven ethnic student bodies in Mizoram, saying it reflected the spirit of fraternity among the communities. He welcomed the initiative to organise the meet, which provides an opportunity for greater interaction and understanding. Referring to the event’s theme, “We are Zofas; we cannot be divided,” he stressed that the message should be practised in everyday life.

Highlighting the state government’s commitment to minority communities, Lalduhoma said the government attaches great importance to their participation and that he makes every effort to attend programmes organised by minority groups whenever possible. He noted that over the past year he had participated in events such as the Tlanglut Festival organised by the Bawm Students’ Association (BSA), the Sikpui Ruoi Festival organised by the Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) at Saipum, the Naumariamlak Festival organised by the Pang Zirlai Pawl (PZP) at Vathuampui, the Thangram Cultural Meet organised by student organisations and the Thangram Indigenous Tribal Movement, and now the Joint Hnampual Meet.

The Chief Minister said one of the key reasons for the peaceful coexistence of various communities in Mizoram is that the state is free from insurgent groups. He stated that the government has worked tirelessly to make Mizoram a peaceful state and recalled that on April 30 this year, the HPC (D) Lalhmingthanga Sanate Faction, the last remaining insurgent group in the state, surrendered its arms. As a result, Mizoram is now free from ethnic insurgent groups, with peace and stability firmly established. He urged everyone to preserve this hard-earned peace.

Lalduhoma emphasised the importance of unity among the Zofa people while preserving the unique identity, culture, and languages of every community. He said different ethnic groups should learn to live together harmoniously, supporting one another without discrimination or prejudice.

Speaking about linguistic unity, the Chief Minister said a common language plays a vital role in strengthening solidarity among different communities. While every ethnic group should continue to preserve its own language, he stressed the need to use a common language to facilitate communication across Mizoram. He also encouraged greater enrichment of the Mizo language by incorporating words and expressions from various Mizo dialects instead of relying excessively on Hindi or English vocabulary.

He urged the youth to value and study the history of their respective communities while also documenting and promoting their literature. He encouraged people to upload more historical and literary resources online and to translate and publish them in English so that they can reach a wider audience.

The Chief Minister also said that whether a community is in the majority or minority in a particular area, it is important to respect and understand each other’s perspectives. People should always remain sensitive to the feelings and concerns of those around them to ensure peaceful coexistence.

Calling upon the younger generation to think about the future, Lalduhoma said today’s generation is the product of those who came before them, and future generations will in turn inherit what today’s people build. He urged everyone involved in governing and shaping society to remain conscious of their responsibility to create a better future and continue moving forward with determination.

Guest of Honour Lalmuanpuia Punte described the Joint Hnampual Meet as a significant initiative for promoting ethnic unity. He said young people and students have a vital role in safeguarding the interests of their communities while strengthening harmony among different ethnic groups.

Speaking on the occasion, CYMA Vice President Prof. Lalnuntluanga urged participants not to remain confined to narrow ethnic identities but to preserve their shared Mizo identity. He said a common language serves as an important bond uniting the various Mizo communities and stressed that it should be promoted alongside the preservation of individual tribal languages. He also encouraged every community to fulfil its responsibilities for the overall development of Mizo society.

The programme was conducted by JHSO Senior Vice Chairman Jairas Ranglong. General Secretary Vanlalfakhlua presented the organisation’s report, while Chairman Stephan Rutland addressed the gathering. Treasurer Ziakthangpuia delivered the vote of thanks before the event concluded.

The Joint Hnampual Students’ Organisation (JHSO) is a federation comprising the Mizoram Bawm Students Union, Ranglong Students’ Union, Hmar Students’ Association, Pang Zirlai Pawl, Siamsinpawlpi, Lai Students’ Association, and Mara Students’ Organisation. The Joint Hnampual Meet 2026 was organised as a three-session event, with the main programme held on Saturday afternoon.
